Indians placed OF/1B Nick Swisher on the 15-day disabled list with right knee soreness.

It's the second time this season that knee issues have forced him to the DL, and he indicated that he might be out for a while. "I can't keep playing like this," Swisher said. "We have to find out what's going on." More will be known after Swisher undergoes an MRI in the coming days. David Murphy (oblique) is also headed to the disabled list, as the Indians will recall Tyler Holt and Zach Walters.

Edwin Encarnacion has been scratched from the Blue Jays' lineup Wednesday with a jammed finger.

X-rays on the finger -- his left middle finger -- turned up negative. Encarnacion can be considered day-to-day for now. Chris Colabello is filling in at first base and batting cleanup Wednesday against the Phillies.

According to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald, the reported trade sending Mat Latos and Michael Morse to the Dodgers "could be falling apart."

Latos and Morse are still in the Marlins' clubhouse and Marlins GM-turned-manager Dan Jennings told the media on Wednesday afternoon that he hadn't heard about any trade being close. Word is the Dodgers are trying to flip Morse to a third team, so that could be the holdup. There's also talk of this being a medical thing. It's going to be a crazy 48 hours as the July 31 trade deadline approaches.

Jon Lester limited the Rockies to two runs over eight innings Wednesday in the Cubs' 3-2 victory.

Lester struck out 14 and walked just one in the dominant outing on a hot, sunny day at Wrigley Field. The left-hander has been on a roll for the last couple of months, now boasting a 3.26 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 136/32 K/BB ratio in 132 2/3 total innings. He will get the Pirates on the road next time out.

Andrew McCutchen went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI in Wednesday's 10-4 rout of the Twins.

McCutchen launched a two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning and an RBI single in the top of the sixth. He's batting .290/.386/.490 with 14 home runs and 64 RBI in 97 games this season for the Bucs.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Rangers are "now the clear-cut favorite" to land Cole Hamels.

Nightengale says the Dodgers prefer David Price, and the Tigers made it public Wednesday that they're going to begin selling parts. Hamels is also drawing interest from the Astros, but word from Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle is that the Astros expect the ace left-hander to land elsewhere. FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported Wednesday afternoon that the Giants are "fading" in the Hamels chase. It's all coming together for Texas.

Mike Trout (wrist) is out of the Angels' starting lineup again on Wednesday night.

Trout injured his wrist on a diving catch attempt Monday. An MRI taken Tuesday showed only inflammation and the star center fielder is fully expected to avoid the 15-day disabled list. David DeJesus is starting in center field Wednesday in his Angels debut.
Jul 29 - 4:41 PM

Corey Kluber went the distance against the Royals Wednesday, recording six strikeouts while allowing just one run in a 12-1 victory.

He missed out on a shutout when Alex Rios had an RBI groundout in the ninth inning, but that's hardly anything to quibble over. Kluber permitted just five base knocks on the day and issued just one free pass as the Tribe rolled to a win. The reigning American League Cy Young winner has a superb 172/32 K/BB ratio over 157 innings this season to go along with a 3.44 ERA. He'll get the Angels on the road next.
Jul 29 - 4:11 PM

Randal Grichuk (groin) is back in the Cardinals' starting lineup Wednesday against the Reds.

Grichuk missed a couple of games with groin discomfort. He underwent an MRI on Monday and it showed no structural damage. The young slugger is starting in center field and batting seventh in his return to action Wednesday.

Red Sox placed OF Mookie Betts on the 7-day concussion disabled list.

Betts was injured when he fell over the short bullpen wall at Fenway Park while trying to make a catch during Tuesday's game. As is the case with most any concussion, how long he'll be sidelined is totally up in the air at this point. Jackie Bradley will handle center field while Betts is out.

ESPN's Jim Bowden reports that Tyson Ross has become the Blue Jays' "top trade target."

The issue, however, is how eager the Padres are to move him given his skill level and the fact that he's under team control through 2017. San Diego is also listening on James Shields, Andrew Cashner and Ian Kennedy and they'd surely prefer to trade any of those three over Ross. The Jays have also been connected to Jeff Samardzija, Mike Leake and others.
Jul 29 - 3:45 PM

ESPN's Jayson Stark reports that the Tigers called teams Wednesday to tell them they were "rebooting" and will listen to trade offers for David Price, Yoenis Cespedes and others.

One of the big questions this week has been whether the Tigers will be buyers or sellers at the deadline, and now we have our answer. Price instantly becomes one of the most attractive trade chips and will surely bring a boatload even though he's slated for free agency after the season. Cespedes should also bring back quite a bit and the Tigers figure to shop Joakim Soria and others, as well.
