Brett Anderson's season is likely over after he's been diagnosed with a bulging L4-L5 disk in his back.

He'll consult with Arizona spine surgeon Dr. Chris Young on Monday but isn't expected back this season even if he doesn't wind up needing surgery. Anderson was limited to just eight starts this season due to injury after ailments limited him to an average of eight starts across the previous three campaigns. At last check, the Rockies are expected to pick up his $12 million option for 2015 in spite of him being a big injury risk.

Trey Mancini bashed his 14th home run of the season Sunday in the Orioles’ victory over the Rays.

He ended Jake Odorizzi’s outing by belting a one-out solo shot in the sixth inning. That would be his only hit of the afternoon. The 25-year-old has caught fire recently, hitting an absurd .474 during his five-game hitting streak. If he had enough at-bats to qualify, Mancini's .321 average would be fourth-highest in the American League.

Aaron Hicks was forced to leave Sunday's game against the Rangers due to right oblique tightness.

Hicks is scheduled to undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the injury. This comes on the heels of the outfielder missing a few games due to a sore Achilles. It sounds like it could lead to a trip to the disabled list, but more will be known on Monday.

Addison Russell departed Sunday's game versus the Marlins with right shoulder discomfort.

It's something that's been a recurring ailment for him this season. Consider Russell day-to-day.

Yasiel Puig is not in Sunday's lineup due to a nagging hamstring issue.

Puig has often had hamstring issues during his career, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts insisted that this one isn't a major concern. "It's not serious," Roberts said. Cody Bellinger will handle right field Sunday, with Logan Forsythe sliding over to first base and Austin Barnes getting a start at second base.
Jun 25 - 2:57 PM

Jon Gray (foot) will rejoin the Rockies' rotation next weekend in Arizona.

Manager Bud Black made it official Sunday, although he didn't reveal the exact day Gray would be activated. The big right-hander has been sidelined since mid-April with a stress fracture in his left foot but got through a rehab assignment with no issues. The Rockies will go back to a traditional five-man rotation when Gray returns, but they haven't announced yet who will be moved to the bullpen or the minors.
Jun 25 - 2:54 PM

Madison Bumgarner (shoulder) will make an appearance for the Giants' Arizona Rookie League team on Sunday.

Bumgarner also hit off a tee Sunday, as the left-hander's recovery from a sprained left AC joint continues to progress more quickly than expected. If he gets through Sunday's appearance with no issues, Bumgarner is expected to be officially cleared to begin a rehab assignment. He's tracking toward a return just after the All-Star break.
Jun 25 - 2:46 PM

Zack Wheeler (biceps) threw a 72-pitch bullpen session Sunday.

Wheeler's next turn in the rotation comes up on Saturday and it's possible he'll be ready then. The Mets should have more on his status later this week. Rafael Montero is starting in Wheeler's place on Sunday.
Jun 25 - 2:37 PM

Astros manager A.J. Hinch said Sunday that it's "trending" toward Dallas Keuchel (neck) not returning before the All-Star break.

Hinch noted that Keuchel is "doing well and continuing to progress," but the Astros have decided to take an extra cautious approach here. The skipper indicated that they'll know for sure sometime within the next week whether it's possible Keuchel could be back before the break, but it sounds like the club will wait until after the break. Keuchel has missed most of June with a neck injury that has dogged him since May.

Brewers claimed C Stephen Vogt off waivers from the Athletics.

Vogt, 32, has batted just .217/.287/.357 this season and hit only .222/.287/.365 in the second half last season. However, he was an All-Star in 2015 and 2016 and is under team control through 2020. With Jett Bandy in a lengthy slump (.151/.240/.247 since May 1), the Brewers felt Vogt was worth a shot. He figures to share catching duties with Manny Pina but looks like a capable second catcher in fantasy leagues now with Miller Park as his new home.
Jun 25 - 1:31 PM

Joey Gallo (hamstring) has been sent back to Texas to be re-evaluated.

Gallo is missing a second straight start with a sore right hamstring. The Rangers are hopeful that he can rejoin the club on Monday in Cleveland, but more will be known after he's examined.
Jun 25 - 1:23 PM

Zach Britton (forearm) is aiming to rejoin the Orioles' bullpen on July 5.

Britton has tossed three scoreless innings so far on his rehab assignment with Low-A Delmarva. He'll move up to Double-A Bowie to pitch Monday and Thursday, then go to High-A Frederick and finally to Triple-A Norfolk. Assuming he continues to progress without any setbacks, Britton will be activated on July 5, five games before the All-Star break.
