An MRI taken Tuesday on the sore right shoulder of Justin Verlander showed no structural damage.

Verlander is expected to avoid the disabled list. He was shelled for five runs -- four earned -- in one inning Monday by the Pirates and is now 10-11 on the season with a 4.76 ERA and 1.42 WHIP. The former ace will likely be in a bullpen role in the playoffs, if the Tigers make it.

Jose Bautista's first homer of the year was a three-run shot in the top of the 13th, propelling the Blue Jays over the Angels 8-7 on Friday.

The Halos came back with two runs of their own, but Joe Biagini stopped them from there. Bautista was in an 0-for-19 slump before collecting an infield single in the ninth inning tonight. He had just one RBI all year before the homer, which also gave him his first multihit game of the season. It's something to build on, hopefully.

Adam Wainwright yielded two runs over five innings and led the charge for the offense in Friday’s 6-3 victory over the Brewers.

Wainwright drove in four runs en route to his first victory of the season, including a two-run homer in the third inning and a two-run single in the fourth. The veteran right-hander really struggled through his first three starts, but he struck out nine and walked none on Friday. The Brewers are striking out more than any team so far this season, but Wainwright will happily take it. He improved his ERA to 6.27 with the victory and will try to build off this one next week against the struggling Blue Jays in St. Louis.
Apr 22 - 1:25 AM

Cole Hamels spun eight innings of one-run ball in Friday’s 6-2 victory over the Royals.

It was his first win of the season. Hamels was in control throughout, limiting the Royals to just three hits while walking two and hitting a batter. The only run scored when Lorenzo Cain doubled in the first inning. Hamels owns an impressive 2.77 ERA through his first four starts, though he hasn’t topped five strikeouts in any of them. He had just three strikeouts on Friday. The veteran southpaw gets the Twins next at home.
Apr 22 - 12:49 AM

Joey Gallo clubbed a pair of long home runs and knocked in three runs in a win over the Royals on Friday.

It was his first career multi-homer game. Gallo broke a tie with a two-run rocket off Nathan Karns in the second inning. The ball traveled an estimated 462 feet to right field and actually hit a popcorn stand on the concourse in right field. All patrons must stay alert when he’s at the plate. His second homer, a solo shot in the fifth inning off Karns, was a moonshot to the second deck in right-center field. The 23-year-old is still striking out in bunches — he has 23 strikeouts in just 56 at-bats — but he leads the Rangers with five home runs.
Apr 22 - 12:48 AM

Corey Kluber tossed a three-hit shutout in Friday’s 3-0 victory over the White Sox.

He needed 110 pitches (73 of them strikes) to compete his fourth career shutout. Kluber was flat-out dominant, striking out nine batters while issuing only two walks. All three hits were singles. Kluber lowered his ERA from 6.38 to 4.28 with the brilliant outing and fantasy owners should expect continued improvements in the outings to come. He’ll square off against the Astros next time out.
Apr 22 - 12:18 AM

Bryce Harper went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, two runs scored, and a walk as the Nationals topped the Mets 4-3 in 11 innings on Friday.

Harper got the Nationals on the board with a two-run blast off Matt Harvey in the first inning. He later scored the go-ahead run in the 11th inning after reaching on a double against Josh Smoker and Trea Turner drew a bases-loaded walk against Jeurys Familia. Harper has been on an absolute tear to begin the year, hitting .407/.521/.864 with seven homers and 20 RBI through 16 games. He’s back in MVP form.
Apr 21 - 11:27 PM

Miguel Cabrera was pulled from Friday's game against the Twins in the seventh inning due to a right groin strain.

The injury may have occurred while diving for a ball defensively in the sixth inning. He'll be re-evaluated on Saturday before determining how much time, if any, he'll miss. Cabrera has already been battling a lower back issue this season and there's a chance that this new injury could force him to the disabled list. If that were to occur, James Loney could be recalled from Triple-A to replace him.
Apr 21 - 11:03 PM

Dylan Bundy earned his third win of the season on Friday, scattering six hits over seven shutout innings against the Red Sox.

Bundy struck out three while issuing only one free pass on the night. He has been extremely impressive through his first four starts in 2017, compiling a 1.37 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 20/4 K/BB ratio through 26 1/3 innings. He'll look to extend that dominance when he does battle against the Rays on Wednesday in Baltimore.
Apr 21 - 10:39 PM

Dustin Pedroia was forced to leave Friday's game against the Orioles after he was spiked in the calf by a sliding Manny Machado.

It appeared to be a late slide by Machado, which Red Sox' third base coach Brian Butterfield took extreme exception to and got himself tossed from the ballgame. Look for an update on Pedroia's status after the game.
Apr 21 - 10:28 PM

Jeremy Hellickson improved to 3-0 on the season Friday, limiting the Braves to two runs on three hits over his seven innings of work.

The right-hander punched out five on the evening and didn't issue a walk. Adonis Garcia delivered an RBI single against him in the fourth and Freddie Freeman blasted a solo homer in the sixth, but aside from that Hellickson was in complete command. He'll carry an impressive 1.88 ERA and 0.71 WHIP into his next start against the Marlins on Thursday.
Apr 21 - 10:19 PM

Justin Turner (hand) is back in the Dodgers' lineup Friday.

Turner didn't play Wednesday after being hit on the hand by a pitch Tuesday. He's at third base and batting third against Taijuan Walker and the Diamondbacks.
