Jorge De La Rosa earned his 12th victory on Thursday, limiting the Reds to three runs over seven innings.

It was the lefty's strongest performance in nearly a month. Ryan Ludwick did a majority of the damage, doubling in a run in the second and later scoring, then hitting a solo home run in the sixth. Overall, De La Rosa allowed five hits and walked one while striking out five. He'll take a 4.32 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 106/49 K/BB ratio into Wednesday's home start against the Royals.

Brock Holt (knee) remains out of the starting lineup Tuesday against the White Sox.

Holt sat out Monday after leaving Sunday's game with a hyperextended knee and he apparently needs at least another day. Jemile Weeks will fill in at second base again Tuesday while Alejandro De Aza will get a shot out of No. 2 spot in the order.

Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan reports that the Diamondbacks are talking to the Reds about a trade for Aroldis Chapman.

It would be a weird move for the Diamondbacks, who aren't in contention this season. A dominant closer is a luxury in such a situation, but Arizona apparently sees him as a difference-maker as they look toward 2016. Chapman, who will be eligible for free agency after next season, has also reportedly drawn interest from the Nationals.
Jul 28 - 3:20 PM

Red Sox transferred RHP Clay Buchholz from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot for Jean Machi on the 40-man roster and also rules Buchholz out until the early part of September. Of course, Buchholz estimated last week that he's likely about five or six weeks away from throwing off a mound as he recovers from a right flexor strain, so he's no sure thing to pitch again this season.
Jul 28 - 3:10 PM

Marlins activated 2B Dee Gordon from the 15-day disabled list.

Gordon only needed one minor league rehab game to prove that he was ready to go. The speedy second baseman has been out since July 12 with a dislocated left thumb. He returns to a .338/.359/.413 batting line to go along with 33 steals.
Jul 28 - 3:04 PM

Royals acquired INF/OF Ben Zobrist and cash considerations from the Athletics for RHP Aaron Brooks and LHP Sean Manaea.

The deal is official. Zobrist drew interest from a long list of contenders, but the Royals are going for it and paid the price to bring to bring him into the fold. The 34-year-old impending free agent has an .801 OPS over 67 games this season and can be used in the infield and the outfield. He should be a useful piece for Ned Yost and the first-place Royals.
Jul 28 - 2:52 PM

Todd Zolecki of MLB.com hears that Jonathan Papelbon or his agents are talking to the Nationals about a potential trade.

This presumably means that something is close. At issue with Papelbon is that he has a no-trade clause and has said that he wouldn't sign off on a deal unless he closes. Of course, the Nationals already have an All-Star closer in Drew Storen. Papelbon's contract includes a $13 million vesting option for 2016, which he could want guaranteed as part of the deal.

David Wright (back) took grounders at third base Tuesday at Citi Field.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said last Thursday that the hope was that Wright would be able to do baseball activities this week in New York and so far things are going to according to plan. It's unclear what the next step will be and obviously he has a long way to go before beginning a rehab assignment, but it's a step in the right direction.
Jul 28 - 2:08 PM

Jane Lee of MLB.com reports that the Athletics are "deep" in trade talks involving Ben Zobrist and a deal could happen soon.

After dealing Scott Kazmir to the Astros last week and Tyler Clippard to the Mets on Monday, Zobrist is likely the next to go. The impending free agent has drawn interest from a long list of teams, including the Royals, Pirates, Angels, Cubs, Yankees, and Giants.
Jul 28 - 1:53 PM

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Tigers have Reds right-hander Mike Leake on their radar.

The Tigers are three games under .500 at 48-51, but they are just 4 1/2 games out of the Wild Card and haven't given up on the possibility of contention. Leake would certainly help their rotation. The 27-year-old owns a 3.78 ERA over 20 starts this season and has been on a roll of late. The impending free agent figures to draw a lot of interest.
Jul 28 - 1:49 PM

Cardinals activated LHP Jaime Garcia from the 15-day disabled list.

Garcia has missed over a month with a groin strain, but he'll make his return Tuesday against the Reds. The southpaw has a 1.69 ERA and 32/7 K/BB ratio in 48 innings over seven starts this season and should be relevant in mixed fantasy leagues as long as he has a rotation spot.
Jul 28 - 1:35 PM

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Marlins are now "now open to at least contemplate" trading Martin Prado.

Previous reports indicated that the Marlins planned to keep Prado, but they are softening on that stance just a couple of days away from the trade deadline. The 31-year-old is owed $11 million next season, though the Yankees are covering $3 million. He's capable of playing multiple positions and should have appeal to multiple contenders.
