Alex Cobb improved to 8-6 after tossing 7 1/3 scoreless innings against the Yankees on Friday.

Amazingly, the Rays are now back to .500 for the year. Cobb held the Yankees to six hits (all of them singles) and one walk while striking out eight batters. He has now allowed two runs or fewer in seven consecutive starts, pulling his ERA down from 4.28 to 3.19. Those fantasy owners who were patient are reaping the rewards. He'll try to keep it going against the Tigers next week.

Alex Cobb fired seven innings of one-run ball Wednesday in the Rays' 5-1 victory over the Orioles.

Cobb allowed just one walk and four hits while racking up six strikeouts in the easy-looking 94-pitch effort. The one run he gave up came on a solo homer by Orioles second baseman Jonathan Schoop in the top of the fourth inning. Cobb has run into a couple of rough patches this season, but he owns a cool 3.46 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 90/34 K/BB ratio in 138 innings overall and he's been especially sharp over his last four outings. A road test against the first-place Astros is up next.

Phillies activated OF Aaron Altherr from the 10-day disabled list.

Altherr missed exactly 10 days with a strained right hamstring. The 26-year-old outfielder returns to an impressive .288/.359/.539 batting line with 14 home runs, 44 RBI, five stolen bases, and 40 runs scored in 79 games.
Jul 26 - 3:02 PM

Mookie Betts is out of the Red Sox starting lineup Wednesday afternoon against the Mariners.

It's a rare day off for the 24-year-old outfielder, who went 0-for-6 with two strikeouts in Tuesday night's extra-innings loss at Safeco Field. Brock Holt is in right and batting leadoff Wednesday versus M's right-hander Andrew Moore.
Jul 26 - 1:51 PM

Robinson Cano is getting the day off Wednesday.

Danny Espinosa will start at second base and bat ninth for the Mariners against Red Sox left-hander Chris Sale. It appears to be routine rest for Cano.
Jul 26 - 1:38 PM

David Peralta (knee) is not in the Diamondbacks' lineup Wednesday afternoon against the Braves.

Peralta fouled a ball off his left knee in the sixth inning Tuesday, though it doesn't seem to be anything too serious. Gregor Blanco will play left field and bat leadoff in the 3:40 p.m. ET start versus Braves right-hander Aaron Blair.
Jul 26 - 12:56 PM

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that the Cubs are "among several clubs" to inquire on Mets right-hander Seth Lugo.

It would probably take a big-time prospect or two to pluck Lugo away from New York, as the 27-year-old boasts a 3.32 ERA over his first 116 2/3 major league innings and is under contractual control through 2022. But perhaps the 47-51 Mets will look to sell high on a guy who's had recent elbow problems. Crasnick says the Cubs "love his spin rate and think he has breakout potential."

According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Cubs, Red Sox, Rockies, Indians, Pirates, Orioles, White Sox, Tigers, Athletics, and Blue Jays are the 10 teams on Yu Darvish's no-trade list.

Meaning, of course, that he can veto a deal to any of those 10 clubs. The big notable here is the presence of the Cubs, as they have expressed serious interest, but Darvish might not be against a move to the defending World Series champs and the DH-less National League. The 30-year-old impending free agent holds a 3.44 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 143/43 K/BB ratio in 133 1/3 innings (21 starts) this season with Texas.
Jul 26 - 12:01 PM

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Aaron Judge will be back in the lineup on Thursday.

Judge is "a little banged up," per Girardi, and he will not start in Wednesday afternoon's series finale against the Reds. But this is nothing serious. Clint Frazier will handle right field and bat ninth versus Cincinnati starter Homer Bailey.
Jul 26 - 11:18 AM

Zack Cozart (quad) is out of the Reds' starting lineup Wednesday versus the Yankees.

Cozart aggravated his lingering left quad injury while running the bases on Tuesday night and could be looking at another extended absence. Jose Peraza will start at shortstop and bat ninth for the Reds on Wednesday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.
Jul 26 - 10:36 AM

Chris Davis (illness) is back in the Orioles' starting lineup Wednesday afternoon against the Rays.

Davis missed two games with a nasty stomach bug. The veteran slugger will start at first base and bat cleanup Wednesday versus Rays right-hander Alex Cobb.
Jul 26 - 10:18 AM

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports that the Royals are in talks with the Blue Jays about a trade for Francisco Liriano.

Liriano owns an ugly 5.99 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, and 70/42 K/BB ratio through 76 2/3 innings (17 starts) this season with Toronto, but the Royals don't have the kind of high-level prospects necessary to pursue big-ticket arms -- especially after acquiring Trevor Cahill, Brandon Maurer, and Ryan Buchter on Monday from the Padres. Liriano, 33, is owed around $4.5 million in the final year of a three-year, $39 million deal.
