Anthony Ranaudo is scheduled to start for the Red Sox on Friday night against the Rays.

Ranaudo allowed four earned runs over six innings earlier this month in a spot start against the Reds and is a risky -- but not terrible -- fantasy play versus Tampa Bay. The 24-year-old right-hander has registered a 2.61 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 111/54 K/BB ratio in 138 innings (24 starts) this season for Triple-A Pawtucket.

Jose Abreu (hip, groin) said he expects to play Friday against the Tigers.

Abreu left Wednesday's game against Kansas City with a flexor strain in his right hip but said he mostly feels pain in his upper groin. Either way, he should be ready to roll after the White Sox's off day on Thursday. Abreu has plated at least 100 runs in each of the last three seasons. He'll have to pick up the pace if he wants to make it four straight (.253, 0 HR, 8 RBI in 75 at-bats).

Shelby Miller (elbow) sent his MRI results to Dr. James Andrews.

Andrews is usually the doctor players see before getting Tommy John surgery, so obviously Miller is dealing with more than a garden variety elbow injury. Even if Miller gets good news from Andrews, we wouldn't expect to see him on a big league mound anytime soon. It's been one disaster after another for Miller since joining the Diamondbacks in 2016.
Apr 26 - 7:38 PM

Cody Bellinger will bat leadoff Wednesday against the Giants.

Talk about being thrown into the fire. In just his second MLB game, Bellinger will handle leadoff duties against perennial Cy Young contender Johnny Cueto. The talented 21-year-old earned his first big league hit off Neil Ramirez in the ninth inning of Tuesday night's 2-1 victory. SS Corey Seager, 3B Justin Turner, 1B Adrian Gonzalez, C Yasmani Grandal, RF Yasiel Puig, 2B Chase Utley, OF Andrew Toles and P Alex Wood round out the rest of the Dodgers' starting lineup.
Apr 26 - 7:10 PM

Adrian Beltre (calf) is not progressing as quickly the Rangers had hoped.

"It's getting better but not where we expect it to be," said manager Jeff Banister. "We're still in the rehab mode." The Rangers had been hoping to have Beltre back by the end of April but obviously that ship has already sailed. According to MLB.com's TR Sullivan, "May is starting to look murky too." Power-hitting Joey Gallo will continue to man the hot corner in Beltre's absence.

Giants placed OF Denard Span on the 10-day disabled list with a sprained right shoulder.

He hasn't played since crashing into the outfield wall on Saturday and obviously the Giants felt he needed a few more days. Span's stint on the disabled list will likely be a short one. Drew Stubbs and Gorkys Hernandez will share time in center field during his absence.
Apr 26 - 6:28 PM

Nationals placed RHP Koda Glover on the 10-day disabled list with a left hip impingement.

Matt Grace was called up from Triple-A Syracuse in the corresponding roster move. Glover said he felt pain on the first pitch of his outing Tuesday against the Rockies but expects to return after the minimum 10 days. The right-hander suffered a torn labrum last season, so he has a history of hip trouble. Shawn Kelley will have the ninth inning all to himself in Glover's absence.
Apr 26 - 5:56 PM

Gary Sanchez (biceps) has been throwing from 120 feet.

He's also been taking BP in the batting cage. Sanchez will probably need a minor league rehab assignment before he's ready to return, but it shouldn't be long before the Yankees' star catcher is back behind the plate. The 24-year-old strained his biceps against the Orioles on April 8.
Apr 26 - 5:40 PM

Didi Gregorius (shoulder) is on track to return against the Orioles this weekend.

Gregorius could be back as soon as Friday. The 27-year-old has looked sharp during his minor league rehab assignment, hitting .429 with a homer in four games for High-A Tampa. Gregorius has spent the past month recovering from a shoulder strain he suffered at the World Baseball Classic. Ronald Torreyes has been kept his seat warm at shortstop over the first few weeks.
Apr 26 - 5:36 PM

Eric Thames left Wednesday's game against the Reds with left hamstring tightness.

Jesus Aguilar replaced Thames at first base to begin the eighth inning. Brewers manager Craig Counsell said the injury is "not a big deal," so it looks like Thames will avoid the disabled list. The hottest hitter in baseball went 1-for-3 with a single and two walks on Wednesday. With Milwaukee off on Thursday, Thames expects to be in the lineup Friday against Atlanta.
Apr 26 - 4:57 PM

Jett Bandy went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI in the Brewers' 9-4 win over the Reds on Wednesday.

Bandy hit an RBI single in the Brewers' five-run first inning before adding an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth. The 27-year-old catcher has a sensational .349/.391/.698 batting line with four home runs in 13 games this season, but he'll continue to share starts behind the plate with Manny Pina, who's also off to an excellent start offensively.
Apr 26 - 4:53 PM

Jose Abreu has been diagnosed with a mild right hip flexor strain.

Abreu took an awkward spill while trying to field a groundball in Wednesday afternoon's game against the Royals. A hip flexor strain is something that could send the first baseman to the 10-day disabled list, though the White Sox are calling him day-to-day for now. Todd Frazier moved from third base to first base on Wednesday with Tyler Saladino taking over at the hot corner.
