Xander Bogaerts went for tests on his left thumb after Thursday's game against the Blue Jays.

Bogaerts clubbed a go-ahead single in the ninth inning but jammed his thumb sliding into second base (he was called out after the Tigers challenged the play). He stayed in the game but was clearly at less than 100 percent. He'll be re-evaluated Friday before the Red Sox begin their three-game set at Baltimore. Brock Holt and Marco Hernandez are candidates to fill in at shortstop.

Madison Bumgarner will not require surgery on his injured left shoulder.

That's the initial evaluation anyway, after a round of tests overseen by Dr. Kenneth Akizuki. Bumgarner is hoping to begin rehab activities in 4-5 days but probably won't be ready to resume throwing off a mound for two months. The ace left-hander suffered a strained AC joint and a rib cage bruise last Thursday in a dirt-bike accident.
Apr 25 - 8:00 PM

Erasmo Ramirez was scratched from his scheduled start Tuesday night against the Orioles.

There are uncertain weather conditions in Baltimore and the Rays don't want to mess with Ramirez on a night that include multiple delays. Ramirez held the Tigers to one run over five innings in his sharp 2017 debut last Thursday. Austin Pruitt will start against the O's instead on Tuesday, and Ramirez could be available out of the bullpen.
Apr 25 - 7:06 PM

Dodgers purchased the contract of OF/1B Cody Bellinger from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Bellinger is starting in left field and batting eighth in his MLB debut Tuesday night against Giants left-hander Ty Blach. The 21-year-old has put up huge offensive numbers at multiple levels of the minor leagues and immediately deserves a look in deeper mixed fantasy leagues with Rob Segedin (toe), Franklin Gutierrez (hamstring), and Joc Pederson (groin) all currently sidelined. Bellinger could carve out a big role if he gets off to a hot start.
Apr 25 - 7:00 PM

Kendall Graveman (shoulder) threw a successful 42-pitch bullpen session on Monday.

Graveman reported no day-after discomfort on Tuesday and is on track to return to the Oakland rotation Thursday in Anaheim. The 26-year-old right-hander was sporting an excellent 2-0 record, 2.00 ERA, and 1.00 WHIP through three starts (18 innings) this season, showing improved fastball velocity. This shoulder issue will hopefully be a minor blip.
Apr 25 - 6:54 PM

Jorge Soler (oblique) went 1-for-4 with a home run and a walk Tuesday with Triple-A Omaha.

He now has two home runs in five rehab games, but Royals manager Ned Yost said Tuesday that no decision has been made about Soler's activation date. The 25-year-old outfielder landed on the disabled list at the end of spring training with a strained left oblique. He should join Kansas City's lineup at some point in the next week.

Tuesday night's game between the Marlins and Phillies has been postponed due to rain.

It's the third postponement of the night in the Northeast. Vince Velasquez was scheduled to start at home for the Phillies against left-hander Wei-Yin Chen of the Marlins. Velasquez will start on Wednesday against Miami with Nick Pivetta's major league debut getting pushed to the weekend.
Apr 25 - 6:43 PM

Aaron Sanchez (finger) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Tuesday without issue.

Sanchez used all of his pitches and drew positive reviews from the Blue Jays' coaching staff. The young right-hander needed surgery on April 18 to remove part of the nail on his right middle finger, but it sounds like he won't be out much longer. Look for a more detailed timetable by this weekend.
Apr 25 - 6:16 PM

Athletics placed OF Rajai Davis on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to April 21, with a left hamstring strain.

It's not a severe strain, but the A's will take advantage of the new 10-day disabled list to get Davis some needed rest. The veteran outfielder is batting just .214/.262/.375 with one home run and one stolen base through 15 regular-season games.
Apr 25 - 5:48 PM

Tuesday night's game between the Braves and Mets has been postponed due to rain.

The evening forecast looks ugly across much of the Northeast. Robert Gsellman was scheduled to pitch for the Mets against Julio Teheran of the Braves. The game will be made up as part of a traditional doubleheader on September 25. Noah Syndergaard is going to stay on schedule and face off against Teheran in Wednesday's game, with Gsellman getting skipped.
Apr 25 - 5:39 PM

David Price (elbow) is scheduled to face live hitters on Saturday.

Price made it through a 45-pitch bullpen session Monday without issue and is finally ready to take the next step in his rehab. It'll be his first time facing live hitters since he came down with elbow discomfort in early March. There should be a better picture on his timetable after the weekend.
Apr 25 - 4:43 PM

Zach Britton (forearm) is scheduled to make a minor league rehab appearance on Friday.

That assumes he makes it through a full bullpen session Wednesday without issue. There's talk of Britton returning to the Orioles on Sunday, but the 29-year-old closer still has some big hurdles to clear. Brad Brach and Darren O'Day have been handling ninth-inning duties for Baltimore while Britton nurses a forearm strain.
