Kendrys Morales (illness) is back in the Blue Jays' starting lineup on Sunday.

Morales will DH and bat cleanup versus Pirates right-hander Chad Kuhl after missing a handful of games with an illness. The veteran slugger has 21 home runs and 60 RBI in 107 games this season.

Brandon Kintzler has agreed to a two-year free agent contract with the Nationals, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the White Sox "emerged Wednesday as the most aggressive suitor" for Manny Machado.

Chicago isn't quite ready to contend and Machado can become a free agent after the 2018 season, but Rosenthal hears that the White Sox would quickly attempt to sign Machado to a long-term deal if they were able to land him. There's also the possibility, per Rosenthal, that the White Sox could flip the star third baseman to another club -- maybe the Yankees? -- to further stack their loaded farm system. Baltimore probably wouldn't do a direct trade with New York. Machado is also known to be drawing serious interest from the Giants, Red Sox, and Cardinals.

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Athletics have reached an agreement to acquire outfielder Stephen Piscotty from the Cardinals.

The Cardinals are expected to receive two minor leaguers in return. Piscotty signed a six-year, $33.5 million contract extension with the Cardinals last April after a promising beginning to his major league career, but he took a step back this past season while dealing with injuries and an ALS diagnosis for his mother Gretchen. Piscotty is a Bay Area native and Stanford graduate, so hopefully getting closer to home will help him in general.

Cardinals signed RHP Luke Gregerson to a two-year, $11 million contract.

The deal was agreed upon Sunday and then officially announced by the Cardinals on Wednesday after Gregerson passed his physical. The 33-year-old right-hander struggled with the Astros in 2017, but he had a 2.84 ERA and 537 strikeouts in 538 innings between 2009-2016. St. Louis drafted him out of college back in 2006 and he figures to work in a setup role in his return to the organization.
Dec 13 - 5:40 PM

Phillies signed RHP Pat Neshek to a two-year, $16.25 million contract.

The deal was agreed to on the first day of the Winter Meetings and then finalized Wednesday after Neshek passed his physical. The veteran right-hander opened the 2017 season with the Phillies and pitched terrifically in a setup role before they traded him to the Rockies on July 26 for three minor leaguers. He should resume that setup gig in the Philadelphia bullpen in 2018.
Dec 13 - 5:25 PM

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Giants are "staying in contact" with free agent outfielder Jay Bruce.

Rosenthal says signing Bruce and trading for Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton was the "initial fallback plan" for San Francisco once Giancarlo Stanton rejected a trade there, though the Giants have been unable to match up with Cincinnati on a Hamilton deal. Bruce is also known to be drawing free agent interest from the Rockies, Blue Jays, Mariners, and Mets. He hit .254/.324/.508 with 36 homers and 101 RBI in 146 games this past season between New York and Cleveland.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports hears the Marlins "intend to hold onto Christian Yelich."

There is a massive organizational fire sale underway in Miami, with Giancarlo Stanton, Marcell Ozuna, and Dee Gordon already out the door, but Yelich is under the Marlins' control through 2021 with a club option for 2022 and they apparently want to try to build around the 26-year-old outfielder. Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area confirms this thought, tweeting Wednesday that the Giants "have repeatedly been told" by the Marlins that Yelich is not available.
Dec 13 - 2:43 PM

Craig Mish of Sirius XM reports that the Marlins have traded Marcell Ozuna to the Cardinals.

Miami will reportedly get pitching prospects Sandy Alcantara, Zac Gallen, and Daniel Castano in return, along with outfield prospect Magneuris Sierra. Ozuna broke out with a .312/.376/.548 batting line, 37 home runs, and 124 RBI in 159 games this past season and represents a massive upgrade for the middle of the Cardinals' lineup. The 27-year-old outfielder is under contractual control via salary arbitration through the end of 2019.

MLB.com's Mark Feinsand hears there is nothing imminent between the Rockies and Greg Holland.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reported earlier that Colorado was closing in on an agreement to bring Holland back for the 2018 season and beyond, but a source tells Feinsand that the two sides are "just talking" at the moment. Thomas Harding, the Rockies beat writer for MLB.com, is hearing the same thing as Feinsand. A new deal could happen at some point between Holland and the Rockies, but it sounds like the 32-year-old free agent right-hander is still shopping around for the time being.
Dec 13 - 12:54 PM

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Blue Jays are showing interest in free agent outfielder Carlos Gomez.

Toronto is also reportedly in pursuit of Carlos Gonzalez. Gomez signed a one-year, $11.5 million contract with the Rangers last offseason and went on to bat .255/.340/.462 with 17 home runs and 13 stolen bases in 105 games. The 32-year-old should be able to secure a multi-year deal this time around.
Dec 13 - 12:05 PM

According to Marc Carig of Newsday, the Mets have signed free agent reliever Anthony Swarzak to a two-year, $14 million deal.

That is a very palatable price in this market for a guy who posted an excellent 2.33 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 91/22 K/BB ratio across 77 1/3 innings of relief in 2017. Swarzak, a well-traveled 32-year-old right-hander, is likely to operate in a setup role with the Mets. This deal is pending a physical.
