A source confirmed to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com that Bartolo Colon plans to pitch in 2018.

Colon said "that's the goal" after his final start of the 2017 season. The 44-year-old right-hander posted an ugly 6.48 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, and 89/35 K/BB ratio in 143 total innings this summer between the Braves and Twins, but he'll probably get a shot somewhere if he's not worried about financial or roster guarantees.

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Athletics are among the teams interested in Mets closer Jeurys Familia.

Business is picking up with Familia, as Andy Martino of SNY TV reported earlier Friday that the Mets have gotten to the point of exchanging names with teams. It's believed that 7-8 teams could be involved in trade talks. The A's already have an excellent closer with Blake Treinen, so if acquired, Familia would likely be asked to pitch in a set-up capacity alongside Lou Trivino. That would be a potent late-inning trio.

Ozzie Albies exited Friday's game agianst the Nationals with an apparent injury.

No word yet on the exact nature of the injury, but Gabe Burns of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution notes that he could have tweaked something in his leg while scoring a run in the first inning. The Braves should pass along an update soon. Charlie Culberson replaced him in the lineup for Atlanta.
Jul 20 - 8:02 PM

Justin Turner (hip) is not in Friday's lineup against the Brewers.

Turner has now missed five straight games due to an adductor injury. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that the hope is he'll be ready to go on Saturday, but it's possible he could miss another day or two. Max Muncy is making the start at the hot corner on Friday, with Logan Forsythe at second base and Chris Taylor in left field.
Jul 20 - 7:44 PM

Miguel Sano has been promoted to Triple-A Rochester.

Sano will test himself against advanced competition after hitting .328/.443/.453 with two homers, two doubles and 12 RBI in 19 games with High-A Fort Myers. The 25-year-old was demoted last month after batting just .203/.270/.405 with seven homers over 37 games to begin the year. The goal in sending him down wasn't just to get him back on track with the bat, but for him to get back in proper shape. Assuming he responds well to the move to Triple-A, he could still play a big role for the Twins and fantasy owners during the second half. This wouldn't be a bad time to stash him away.
Jul 20 - 7:31 PM

Josh Harrison (hamstring) is out of the Pirates' lineup Friday against the Reds.

Harrison exited the final game before the All-Star break due to left hamstring discomfort and isn't ready to go just yet. Sean Rodriguez, fresh off the disabled list, will make the start at second base.
Jul 20 - 7:24 PM

Jon Lester was knocked around for eight runs over three-plus innings in Friday’s blowout loss to the Cardinals.

Lester was pulled after loading the bases to begin the fourth inning. It was his shortest outing of the season. With the Cubs scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday, the club ended up using three position players to pitch before the day was over. Lester walked five batters in the loss while giving up seven hits, including a pair of homers. His has been creeping up this month and now sits at 3.14 for the year. Given his peripherals, he was never a strong bet to keep his ERA below 3.00 anyway. He’ll attempt to rebound against the Diamondbacks next time out.
Jul 20 - 7:11 PM

Matt Carpenter enjoyed a historic day in Friday’s blowout 18-5 win over the Cubs, delivering five extra-base hits in five at-bats, including three home runs and seven RBI.

Carpenter also doubled twice and scored four runs. Have mercy. Keep in mind that Carpenter could have done even more damage if he stayed in past the sixth inning, but the Cardinals were up by 14 runs at the time, so they decided to give him the rest of the day off. It's fair to say he deserved it. Carpenter’s five extra-base hits tied an MLB record, but he’s the only player ever to do it within the first six innings of a game. He’s now homered four straight games and owns a healthy .274/.381/.576 batting line with 23 homers and 51 RBI on the year.

Indians manager Terry Francona said Friday that Cody Allen will still see the bulk of the save chances moving forward.

The Indians acquired Brad Hand and Adam Cimber from the Padres on Thursday, giving the club a much-needed boost for their bullpen. While Allen will remain the primary closer for Cleveland, Francona hasn't ruled out using Hand in certain situations.
Jul 20 - 6:30 PM

Buster Posey (hip) is in Friday's lineup against the Athletics.

Posey missed this week's All-Star Game in order to get a cortisone shot in his right hip. It's a good sign he's in the lineup, but testing himself in game action will be the true test.
Jul 20 - 6:23 PM

Giants placed 1B Brandon Belt on the paternity leave list.

Ryder Jones will take his spot on the active roster. Belt could be back later this weekend.
Jul 20 - 6:17 PM

Scott Schebler (shoulder) expects to be activated from the disabled list when eligible next Wednesday.

Schebler is dealing with a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder, which he suffered when he banged into the outfield wall last Saturday. Apparently he got good news when he was checked out Friday. Schebler is batting .278/.351/.470 with 12 home runs this season.
