MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez reports that the Rays have re-signed Sergio Romo to a one-year contract.

The financial details aren't yet known, but the deal -- which is pending a physical -- is a major league contract. Romo posted an ugly 6.12 ERA over 30 appearances for the Dodgers last season before rebounding with a 1.47 ERA across his final 25 outings with the Rays. He'll turn 35 next month and needs to be used judiciously, but Romo can still get right-handed batters out.

Yu Darvish (elbow) will undergo an MRI after exiting Sunday's rehab start with Low-A South Bend following a setback.

Darvish tossed a scoreless first inning but then felt discomfort while warming up prior to the second inning. The right-hander said it's similar to the pain he felt in his rehab start nearly two months ago. Obviously, it's discouraging news for the Cubs and for Davish's fantasy owners. We'll know more after the MRI results are in.

White Sox pitching prospect Michael Kopech will be called up to make his major league debut Tuesday against the Twins.

Finally. Arguably the best pitching prospect in the game, Kopech has put up a 3.70 ERA with a whopping 170 strikeouts over 126 1/3 innings this season at Triple-A Charlotte. He's also walked 60, although he didn't issue a single free pass in four of his last five outings. Kopech is surely going to miss plenty of bats right away even if his control abandons him. He needs to be owned in all fantasy leagues.

Didi Gregorius was lifted from Sunday's game against the Blue Jays following a collision at first base.

Gregorius initially remained in the game after he and Kendrys Morales collided in the first inning, but he was noticeably gimpy and eventually pulled. It's possible the Yankees were just being careful here since they got out to a big early lead, but they should have more on the shortstop's status soon.
Aug 19 - 2:10 PM

James Paxton (forearm) played catch Sunday.

It's the first time he's done any throwing since he landed on the disabled list last week with a left forearm contusion after he was hit by a line drive. He hopes to play catch once more before then throwing a bullpen session. Paxton will be eligible to rejoin the Mariners' rotation next weekend and he would seem to have a shot to be ready by then.

Luke Weaver has been demoted to the Cardinals' bullpen in favor of Daniel Poncedeleon.

Weaver has been wildly inconsistent for the Cards this season and has failed to go even four innings in two of his last three outings. Meanwhile, Poncedeleon threw seven no-hit innings in his lone start with the big club last month and has been solid out of the bullpen, as well. He'll start Tuesday against the Dodgers.
Aug 19 - 12:41 PM

Stephen Strasburg (neck) will rejoin the Nationals' rotation Wednesday against the Phillies.

Neck and shoulder ailments have limited Strasburg to just one major league outing and two rehab starts since mid-June, but he'll forego a rehab assignment this time and be thrust right back into the Nats' rotation. It's not ideal, but with Washington clinging to faint playoff hopes they probably didn't think they had much of a choice. Fantasy owners should be starting Strasburg this week even with the risk that he might not be sharp.
Aug 19 - 12:30 PM

Twins placed RHP Ervin Santana on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to August 16, with reoccurring symptoms related to his original injury to his third finger MCP joint.

Santana had surgery on the finger back in February and had a setback while on his rehab assignment, as well. He's never looked right since the Twins activated him late last month, posting an 8.03 ERA over five starts. He'll see a hand specialist on Tuesday. With a $14 million club option for 2019 that's likely to be declined, it's possible his tenure with the Twins is over.

Ryan Braun (rib cage) is back in the Brewers' lineup Sunday.

It's his first start since he exited Wednesday's game with tightness in his rib cage. Braun is in left field and batting sixth against John Gant and the Cardinals.
Aug 19 - 11:13 AM

Blue Jays placed RHP Marcus Stroman on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to August 18, with a blister on his right middle finger.

The blister has bothered Stroman for at least a couple starts and he really struggled in his last outing Friday against the Yankees. Hopefully it will heal quickly and the right-hander can return when his 10 days are up. Thomas Pannone will take Stroman's spot in the Jays' rotation.

Albert Pujols went 3-for-4 with a homer, a walk, four RBI, and two runs scored in Saturday’s 11-7 victory over the Rangers.

Pujols clubbed a solo shot against Martin Perez in the second inning, his 19th of the season and the 633rd of his career. He would go on to knock in two runs on a single in the third and one more with a go-ahead single in the seventh. This was his first multi-hit game of the month. In fact, Pujols had just one homer and three RBI for all of August coming into Saturday’s action. The 38-year-old is batting .256/.292/.431 on the year.
Aug 19 - 2:28 AM

Paul Goldschmidt went 4-for-4 and knocked in four runs against the Padres on Saturday.

That didn't stop the Diamondbacks from losing, but it was still a huge night for him. Goldschmidt had RBI singles in the first, third, and seventh innings and knocked in a run with a double in the fifth. The 30-year-old has been on a torrid hot streak of late, hitting .488 (20-for-41) over his last 10 games. It might have been unthinkable given where he was around the start of June, but Goldschmidt now holds a very Goldschmidt-like .293/.397/.547 batting line on the year.
