Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports that the Padres have engaged in "regular dialogue" with Eric Hosmer's agent, Scott Boras, over the past several days.

Lin adds that this contact followed a period where neither side was showing much urgency. Royals general manager Dayton Moore said in a radio interview last week that he's had a lot of recent discussion with Hosmer, so barring a mystery team, this still appears to be a two-horse race. It's believed that the clubs each have seven-year offers on the table, with the Padres' reported offer checking in at around $140 million while the Royals' reported offer was estimated at around $147 million. Boras apparently hasn't given up on the possibility that the Padres could top it.

Yankees' manager Aaron Boone said after Sunday's game that the bruised left heel sustained by Didi Gregorius is "pretty significant" and could require a trip to the disabled list.

Gregorius went to the hospital for further testing, but it sounds like he's going to be on the shelf for awhile. He suffered the injury during Sunday's game against the Blue Jays when he collided with Kendrys Morales at first base.

Starlin Castro went 5-for-6 with an RBI and three runs scored in a blowout victory over the Nationals.

Castro doubled twice, and the other three hits were singles. He drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single in the third to score Rafael Ortega. The second baseman now has an eight-game hitting streak, and his season line improves to .287/.335/.407 with 10 homers and 45 RBI over 123 games in his first year with the Marlins.

Jose Urena pitched a complete game in a 12-1 victory over the Nationals on Sunday.

Urena allowed only two hits, and he walked two while striking out four. In his last start, Urena didn't get anyone out as he was ejected for plunking Ronald Acuna to start the game. In this one, Urena didn't need any bullpen help, as he kept the Nationals off balance all game. It's the fourth win of the season for the right-hander against 12 losses, and his ERA drops to 4.50 over 138 innings. Urena’s next listed start is Saturday against the Braves, but for obvious reasons, his next outing likely will come later against a different club.

Melky Cabrera hit a grand slam to help the Indians to an 8-0 victory over the Orioles on Sunday.

Cabrera's grand slam came off of Sean Gilmartin, and it's the fourth homer of the season for the veteran outfielder. Three of those homers have come in the last seven appearances for the 34-year-old, and he has his season line up to .254/.295/.397 in 142 plate appearances. He's not an ideal fantasy outfielder, but you can do worse if you need an active player in your lineup right now.

Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said in a radio interview Sunday that "it is not out of the realm of possibility" Jose Altuve (knee) is activated from the disabled list Tuesday.

Altuve is beginning a rehab assignment with Triple-A Fresno on Sunday and it sounds like he could need just one rehab game before resting Monday and then being activated Tuesday. The star second baseman has been on the shelf since late July with right knee discomfort.

Didi Gregorius has been diagnosed with a bruised left heel.

Gregorius is headed to the hospital to undergo more tests. The shortstop was injured during Sunday's game against the Blue Jays when he collided with Kendrys Morales at first base. The Yankees could have more on Gregorius' status later Sunday.

Yu Darvish (elbow) will undergo an MRI after exiting Sunday's rehab start with Low-A South Bend following a setback.

Darvish tossed a scoreless first inning but then felt discomfort while warming up prior to the second inning. The right-hander said it's similar to the pain he felt in his rehab start nearly two months ago. Obviously, it's discouraging news for the Cubs and for Davish's fantasy owners. We'll know more after the MRI results are in.
Aug 19 - 3:16 PM

White Sox pitching prospect Michael Kopech will be called up to make his major league debut Tuesday against the Twins.

Finally. Arguably the best pitching prospect in the game, Kopech has put up a 3.70 ERA with a whopping 170 strikeouts over 126 1/3 innings this season at Triple-A Charlotte. He's also walked 60, although he didn't issue a single free pass in four of his last five outings. Kopech is surely going to miss plenty of bats right away even if his control abandons him. He needs to be owned in all fantasy leagues.
Aug 19 - 3:06 PM

James Paxton (forearm) played catch Sunday.

It's the first time he's done any throwing since he landed on the disabled list last week with a left forearm contusion after he was hit by a line drive. He hopes to play catch once more before then throwing a bullpen session. Paxton will be eligible to rejoin the Mariners' rotation next weekend and he would seem to have a shot to be ready by then.
Aug 19 - 1:56 PM

Luke Weaver has been demoted to the Cardinals' bullpen in favor of Daniel Poncedeleon.

Weaver has been wildly inconsistent for the Cards this season and has failed to go even four innings in two of his last three outings. Meanwhile, Poncedeleon threw seven no-hit innings in his lone start with the big club last month and has been solid out of the bullpen, as well. He'll start Tuesday against the Dodgers.
Aug 19 - 12:41 PM

Stephen Strasburg (neck) will rejoin the Nationals' rotation Wednesday against the Phillies.

Neck and shoulder ailments have limited Strasburg to just one major league outing and two rehab starts since mid-June, but he'll forego a rehab assignment this time and be thrust right back into the Nats' rotation. It's not ideal, but with Washington clinging to faint playoff hopes they probably didn't think they had much of a choice. Fantasy owners should be starting Strasburg this week even with the risk that he might not be sharp.
