Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen confirmed Tuesday to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic that Chase Field will have a working humidor in 2018.

It's something that has been rumored for a while, and the news is now official. Piecoro notes that "the humidor –- a climate-controlled chamber in which baseballs are stored –- could drastically impact how hard balls are hit and, as a result, how far they travel." The expectation is that this will lead to a significant drop in home runs at was one of the more power-friendly parks in Major League Baseball. It could obviously have wide-reaching fantasy implications. Coors Field in Denver, Colorado is the only other stadium in MLB that uses a humidor and there are scientific theories that point to humidity-controlled baseball storage having a far greater impact in the drier air of Phoenix, Arizona.

Gary Sanchez (groin) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Thursday in the Gulf Coast League.

That's a day earlier than expected. Sanchez should advance to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre over the weekend and could be back on the Yankees' active roster by the middle of next week. The power-hitting catcher has appeared in just three games for the Yankees since June 24 due to a lingering groin injury, but he is capable of helping fantasy championship pursuits down the stretch.
Aug 21 - 5:15 PM

CC Sabathia (knee) will return to the Yankees' starting rotation Friday in Baltimore.

That'll mean a minimum 10-day DL stint for the big left-hander, who's been out since August 13 with mild inflammation in his right knee. Sabathia holds a 7-4 record, 3.32 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 106/41 K/BB ratio in 119 1/3 innings (22 starts) this season for New York. He makes for a decent fantasy play against the last-place O's.
Aug 21 - 4:59 PM

Jose Abreu was scratched from the White Sox lineup on Tuesday due to lower abdominal pain.

This comes with poor timing, even if it turns out to be a minor issue, as Abreu has batted .350/.400/.699 with nine home runs, nine doubles, and 26 RBI over his last 26 games. Matt Davidson is at first base and Daniel Palka will DH on Tuesday night against the Twins.
Aug 21 - 4:50 PM

Eric Thames (knee) is back in the Brewers' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Reds.

He'll start in right field and bat sixth versus Reds right-hander Sal Romano after missing a few games with a sore right knee. Thames holds an .816 OPS with 16 home runs and six stolen bases in 70 games this season.
Aug 21 - 4:45 PM

Kris Bryant (shoulder) is due to take regular on-field batting practice on Tuesday.

That will represent a significant step in the right direction for the star third baseman, who's logged just 40 at-bats since June 22 due to a lingering left shoulder injury. Cubs manager Joe Maddon said recently that he expects Bryant to return to the active roster before the end of August. David Bote has been getting the majority of the playing time at the hot corner in Bryant's absence.
Aug 21 - 4:25 PM

Michael Fulmer (oblique) could return to the Tigers' rotation Friday against the White Sox.

Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire would only say that Fulmer will throw 70 pitches somewhere, whether that means in Detroit against the visiting Pale Hose or in another minor league rehab start. Fulmer, who landed on the disabled list July 20 with a left oblique strain, has struck out 11 batters over six scoreless innings in two rehab outings with High-A Lakeland.
Aug 21 - 4:21 PM

A.J. Minter (back) hopes to be available out of the Braves' bullpen on Wednesday.

Minter was not used in Monday night's 1-0 victory over the Pirates, with Dan Winkler getting the save instead, and it was revealed after the game that the 24-year-old left-hander has been working through a back injury. But he underwent treatment all of last week and played catch on Tuesday without any issues. Winkler is definitely worth a pickup in fantasy leagues in case Minter's back problems linger.
Aug 21 - 4:17 PM

Giancarlo Stanton will start in right field Tuesday against the Marlins.

The Yankees won't have the DH spot for the series, but Stanton's hamstring has progressed well enough for him to get back into the outfield for his return to Miami. Neil Walker will play second base while Gleyber Torres fills in for the injured Didi Gregorius at shortstop.
Aug 21 - 3:43 PM

Buster Posey is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Mets.

He'll take a seat after Monday's extra-inning win. Giants manager Bruce Bochy is resting a bunch of other regulars, including Joe Panik, Brandon Crawford, and Brandon Belt.
Aug 21 - 3:40 PM

Cardinals transferred OF Dexter Fowler from the 10-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot for Matt Adams on the 40-man roster. Fowler went down earlier this month with a left foot fracture and can now be ruled out for September.
Aug 21 - 3:05 PM

Cardinals claimed 1B Matt Adams off waivers from the Nationals.

In other words, the Nationals simply let Adams go on waivers rather than do a trade. The Cardinals will simply be responsible for his remaining salary. Adams has batted .257/.332/.510 with 18 homers over 94 games this season. He's essentially limited to first base, so the Cardinals could have Matt Carpenter move around in order to get him into the lineup against right-handers. Either way, Adams is a useful addition for the surging Cardinals.
