Javier Baez left Thursday's Cactus League game against the Padres with an apparent hamstring injury.

Baez pulled up lame on a double into the left-center field gap in the bottom of the second inning. The timing isn't great here, as hamstring strains can sometimes take 3-4 weeks to recover from and Opening Day is exactly three weeks away. There should be an update about the severity of the injury by Thursday evening.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Dodgers are talking to the Cardinals about Jose Martinez.

Martinez doesn't make a ton of sense on paper for the Dodgers given his struggles defensively at first base and in the outfield, but perhaps they would promptly flip him to an American League team. The 30-year-old can certainly hit -- he's posted an .850 OPS in 270 games over the last three seasons with St. Louis. Martinez seems certain to be traded somewhere this winter.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Yankees GM Brian Cashman met with Adam Ottavino's agent on Tuesday night at the Winter Meetings.

MLB.com's Jon Morosi just reported that the Mets and Red Sox are showing "continued interest" in Ottavino, but they're obviously not alone in the pursuit. Sherman says it is "clear" that the 33-year-old reliever is high on the Yankees' wish list. Ottavino, a native of New York City, registered a 2.43 ERA with 112 strikeouts over 77 2/3 innings out of the Rockies' bullpen in 2018.

A source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand that it is becoming "less and less likely" the Giants will trade Madison Bumgarner this winter.

That same source added that a midseason trade seems more likely, assuming the Giants are not in contention. A number of teams have reportedly expressed interest in the 29-year-old left-hander, including the Phillies, Brewers, Yankees, and Braves, but San Francisco is apparently not ready to part ways quite yet. Bumgarner posted a 3.26 ERA and 109 strikeouts over 129 2/3 innings in 2018 after missing the first two months of the season with a fractured left pinkie.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Phillies "remain very aggressive" on free agent reliever Zach Britton.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported something similar earlier in the day Tuesday. Rosenthal adds that other teams are in the mix, and Fancred's Jon Heyman says the Cardinals are one of them. Britton, 30, posted a 3.10 ERA in 40 2/3 innings this past season between the Orioles and Yankees and seems certain to fetch a multi-year deal this winter. We need a domino to fall on the free agent relief market.
Dec 11 - 9:34 PM

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Yasiel Puig is "in play" in a possible trade between the Dodgers and Reds.

Rosenthal notes that the two teams have "talked multiple times" and are discussing a number of different packages, so there is nothing imminent quite yet. Puig is said to be disgruntled over his relegation to a platoon role in Los Angeles this past season and the expectation is that he will be traded at some point this winter. The 28-year-old outfielder batted .267/.327/.494 with 23 home runs and 15 stolen bases over 125 games in 2018. Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times says the Indians have also expressed interest in acquiring Puig.

MLB.com's Mark Sheldon reports that the Reds have talked to the Braves about a trade for outfielder Ender Inciarte.

Sheldon adds, however, that "nothing is imminent" and that this is just one of many avenues the Reds are exploring in their search for a new everyday center fielder. Billy Hamilton was non-tendered last month and signed a one-year, $5.25 million free agent contract with the Royals this week. Inciarte, 28, batted .265/.325/.380 with 10 home runs and 28 stolen bases over 156 games with Atlanta in 2018. He's won three straight Gold Glove Awards for his elite-level defensive play.

Jon Morosi of MLB.com confirms that the Phillies are "involved" in the J.T. Realmuto trade talks.

The Mets have seemed to be the most aggressive bidder for Realmuto up to this point, but it sounds like they're having trouble figuring out a package that satisfies the Marlins. They've even attempted a three-team trade that would involve the Yankees, though recent reports have suggested those talks are dead. Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald wrote Tuesday morning that a Realmuto trade will "most likely" happen at some point this week.
Dec 11 - 4:44 PM

According to Fancred's Jon Heyman, the Yankees, Phillies, and White Sox are set to meet with free agent Manny Machado.

This comes on the heels of a report from ESPN's Buster Olney that Machado is planning to make "four in-person visits with teams in the days ahead." Heyman adds that there are another three "mystery teams" in the running beyond the Yanks, Phils, and Pale Hose. Machado, 26, is believed to be seeking something close to a 10-year, $300 million deal. He slashed .297/.367/.538 with 37 home runs and 107 RBI in 162 games this past season between the Orioles and Dodgers.
Dec 11 - 4:36 PM

Royals signed OF Billy Hamilton to a one-year, $5.25 million contract with a $7.5 million mutual option for 2020.

The deal was agreed to on Monday and finalized Tuesday after Hamilton passed his physical. He'll serve as the Royals' primary center fielder in 2019 and should have the green light to run wild on the basepaths with the rebuilding club. Hamilton holds a putrid .245/.298/.333 career batting line in over 2,700 major league plate appearances, but the 28-year-old plays tremendous outfield defense and is still one of the top stolen base options in fantasy baseball.
Dec 11 - 4:21 PM

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Red Sox are "openly listening" to offers for Rick Porcello.

The idea is to shed some salary for bullpen help. Porcello posted a 4.28 ERA in 33 starts this past season and is owed $21 million in 2019 before hitting free agency. Nightengale adds that rivals insist the Red Sox are also are willing to talk about shortstop Xander Bogaerts and center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr., but that sounds like a stretch, especially in regard to Bogaerts.
Dec 11 - 3:42 PM

Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that the White Sox are considering free agent catcher Yasmani Grandal.

There's been surprisingly little talk about Grandal after his rough showing during the postseason, but he'd still make for a healthy upgrade on most catching situations around the league. The 29-year-old posted an .815 OPS with 24 home runs over 140 games in 2018 and carries a good reputation for his work behind the plate, postseason struggles aside.
