Marlins manager Don Mattingly said Tuesday that J.T. Realmuto (back) will get a few more days off.

Realmuto exited Sunday's game with a lower back contusion and still feels a little sore. Mattingly is confident he'll be ready for Opening Day, but they understandably don't want to push things right now.

Lorenzo Cain (intercostal) grounded out as a pinch-hitter in Saturday's game against the Pirates.

Cain hadn't played in a game since Tuesday after tweaking an intercostal muscle, so it was a good sign that he felt well enough to get in an at-bat. After the game he offered even more good news, saying, "I plan on being in there tomorrow. Everything's going good right now." The Brewers, who lost a game in the standings with both the Cubs and Cardinals winning Saturday, will certainly welcome him back with open arms if he is ready to return Sunday.

Trevor Williams struck out seven batters while tossing six shutout innings to beat the Brewers on Saturday.

He sprinkled four hits and a walk in his outing and has not allowed a run over 12 innings in his last two starts. He improves to 14-9 with a marvelous 3.04 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 30 starts. The 26-year-old right-hander doesn't garner a ton of strikeouts but he keeps the ball in the yard. He has a 122:52 strikeout-to-walk ratio with 15 homers allowed in 165 2/3 innings.

Nick Kingham will start for the Pirates Sunday against the Brewers.

The team announced Saturday that Joe Musgrove will be shut down for the rest of the year with abdominal discomfort, so Kingham will start in his place. Kingham pitched well in a spot start against the playoff-bound Braves earlier this month, but he hasn't pitched in any game situation since September 8 and it's hard to imagine a scenario where the juice is worth the squeeze in starting him against the hungry Brewers. If you're feeling bold, though, be our guest.

Joe Musgrove won't pitch again in 2018 due to right side abdominal discomfort, the team announced Saturday.

Musgrove was recently diagnosed with a stress reaction on the front of his pelvic bone and an abdominal wall muscle strain, MLB.com's Adam Berry reported on Twitter, and so the 25-year-old's year comes to an abrupt end. Musgrove also began the year on the sidelines but pitched relatively well in between, going 6-9 with a 4.06 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 100/23 K/BB ratio across 19 starts. Musgrove should be on fantasy radars heading into the 2019 season, assuming the injury doesn't linger into next spring.

Aaron Hicks went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and the game-winning knock in the bottom of the 11th inning to beat the Orioles 3-2 on Saturday.

He opened the scoring with a bases-empty drive off David Hess in the second inning. He played the role of hero in extra innings by doubling to left field to drive in Didi Gregorius with the winning run. The game clinched a playoff slot for the Yankees. Hicks has been hot lately as he adds to his .249/.369/.468 triple-slash with 26 home runs, 76 RBI, 89 runs scored and 11 stolen bases.

White Sox manager Rick Renteria said Saturday that he's not ruling out Jose Abreu (thigh) not making it back this season.

"He's got a pretty significant healing process he's got going on with that thigh right now," Renteria said. Abreu was hospitalized earlier this week with a serious infection in his right thigh, and with just nine games left in the season it sounds like time may be working against him. Even if he does get back, it'll likely only be for a game or two at this point.
Sep 22 - 7:57 PM

Ender Inciarte went 2-for-3 and scored three runs on Saturday, leading the Braves to a 5-3 victory over the Phillies, officially clinching their first National League East division title since 2013.

Inciarte drew a four-pitch walk and came around to score in the first inning. He singled twice more in the second and eighth innings, eventually scoring each time as well. He also swiped his 28th base of the season in the contest. For the season, the speedy center fielder is now hitting .266/.327/.386 with 10 homers, 82 runs scored, 60 RBI and 28 stolen bases.
Sep 22 - 4:14 PM

Mookie Betts remained out of the Red Sox' starting lineup on Saturday.

Betts has been battling through a side injury, and now with the division officially wrapped up they'll give him an extra day or two to rest and heal up for the postseason. J.D. Martinez will start in right field while Mitch Moreland fills in as the club's designated hitter for Saturday's game against Mike Clevinger and the Indians.
Sep 22 - 3:34 PM

Kolten Wong (hamstring) is not in the Cardinals' starting lineup on Saturday against the Giants.

Wong was lifted from Friday night's game due to cramping in his hamstring and he'll sit out on Saturday as a precautionary measure. Yairo Munoz will start in his place at second base and will bat eighth against Dereck Rodriguez and the Giants on Saturday.
Sep 22 - 10:50 AM

Adrian Beltre went 2-for-3 with a home run, five RBI and two runs scored as the Rangers walloped the Mariners 8-3 on Friday.

He launched a three-run dinger off Erasmo Ramirez in the first inning, then followed that up with a two-run single that plated Shin-Soo Choo and Jurickson Profar in the third. There is a good chance that home run could go down as the last one of his career. He is a mortal lock to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer with 476 home runs, 1703 RBI and 1522 runs scored. He was an elite third baseman defensively as well. For the season he wields a .276 batting average with 14 home runs and 61 RBI.
Sep 22 - 3:13 AM

Khris Davis homered in the first and 10th innings to propel the A's past the Twins 7-6 on Friday.

Davis had a two-run homer off Jose Berrios to open the scoring and delivered a walkoff blast off Matt Magill to end it. The first homer gave him a career high of 44, overtaking last year's total of 43. With 45 now, he has a pretty good shot of moving into the top five in A's history; he's currently two behind Reggie Jackson's 1969 for that spot. Jimmie Foxx's 58 from 1932 is well out of reach.
