Robinson Chirinos homered and drove in three runs on Sunday, powering the Rangers to a 3-1 victory over the Astros in 10 innings.

Chirinos clubbed a solo home run off of Justin Verlander to get the Rangers on the board in the third inning, the lone hit that the Rangers would tally in eight innings against the Astros' hurler. He was drilled by a pitch in the elbow later in the contest, but remained in the game. It's a good thing to, as he delivered a two-run double in the 10th inning that proved to be the difference. With his 2-for-3 night, Chirinos is now hitting .182/.288/.386 with two homers and six RBI on the season.

Miguel Sano returned to Minnesota to undergo additional testing on his injured left leg.

Sano will miss the entire weekend series against the Athletics in Oakland, and his status for the final week of the season looks to be in doubt. If you've held onto him in redraft leagues, it's probably safe you cut bait now.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that he Orioles are not expected to bring back manager Buck Showalter next season.

Showalter's contract will run out after this season and it appears he's in his final days as O's skipper. It's not a surprise, of course, with Baltimore entering play Friday with a league-worst 44-108 record. Nightengale adds that general manager Dan Duquette, whose deal also runs out after this season, is expected to receive an extension.

James Paxton (illness) hopes to rejoin the Mariners' rotation on Monday or Tuesday.

Paxton has missed the last two weeks of action because of a combination of pneumonia and the flu. He will throw a full bullpen session Friday and if that goes well will be re-inserted back into Seattle's rotation early next week.
Sep 21 - 5:30 PM

Lance McCullers (forearm) could be activated from the disabled list as soon as Monday.

McCullers threw a simulated game at the Astros' spring training complex Friday with no issues and will rejoin the team Friday night. He's slated to be added to the Astros' bullpen next week and will be used as a reliever during the postseason. McCullers has been out since early August with a forearm strain.
Sep 21 - 5:28 PM

Carlos Correa will not play for the remainder of the Astros' homestand because of nagging back soreness.

Correa's back issue is probably the biggest question mark facing the Astros heading into the postseason. He missed seven weeks with the injury and has batted an ugly .174/.257/.223 over 34 games since returning. Correa will play during the Astros' road trip next week, but it will be difficult for fantasy owners to rely on him down the stretch.
Sep 21 - 5:22 PM

Adam Eaton has been out of the Nationals' lineup lately because of soreness in his left knee.

It's the same knee that he blew out last season, causing him to miss most of the year. Manager Davey Martinez said Friday that Eaton is OK and they are just resting him to be careful. Eaton has started just one of the last five games and Victor Robles could continue seeing starts down the stretch.
Sep 21 - 4:58 PM

Ryan Braun (back) is back in the Brewers' lineup Friday.

It's Braun's first start since Sunday, as he's been battling a back issue. He's in left field and batting fifth against Ivan Nova and the Pirates.

Lorenzo Cain (intercostal) remained out of the Brewers' lineup Friday.

He hasn't played since tweaking an intercostal muscle on Tuesday. The Brewers are considering Cain day-to-day. Curtis Granderson is getting a start in his place.

Victor Martinez's final major league game will be on Saturday against the Royals.

Martinez won't be in the lineup Sunday and he wants his last at-bats to come in Detroit. V-Mart will travel will the Tigers on their final road trip next week but won't play. The 39-year-old will retire after the season following a 16-year major league career.

Indians activated RHP Trevor Bauer from the 10-day disabled list.

Bauer will rejoin the Indians' rotation Friday against the Red Sox after missing six weeks with a fractured fibula. He's only expected to go a couple innings Friday, so he's not a recommended fantasy option even versus Boston's post-clinch lineup.
Sep 21 - 4:00 PM

The Rangers have fired manager Jeff Banister.

The news was reported earlier Friday and the team has now made it official. Bench coach Don Wakamatsu will serve as the interim skipper for the rest of the season. Banister was AL Manager of the Year in his first season in Texas in 2015 and made the playoffs again in 2016. However, they didn't win any postseason series with him at the helm and have fallen off the last two seasons.
