Didi Gregorius slugged two home runs in the Yankees' thrashing of the Marlins on Monday.

Gregorius hit a two-run shot off Tyler Cloyd in the bottom of the fourth and a solo blast off Chris O'Grady in the bottom of the seventh. He also drew a walk in the 12-1 rout of Miami, finishing the night 2-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. The power-hitting 28-year-old shortstop boasts a .327/.446/.796 batting line with five home runs, 16 RBI, and 14 runs scored in 15 games this season.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic confirmed a report that the White Sox have acquired Yonder Alonso from the Indians

The deal was first reported by WatchStadium. No word yet on the potential return that the Indians will receive in the deal. The rumor mill is now running rampant, pointing out that Alonso is the brother-in-law of Manny Machado, and that could be another factor that could draw the superstar to sign with the White Sox. It could also mean that Jose Abreu may now be available via trade.

Jon Heyman of Fancred reports that the Cubs are one of six teams that have been in contact with free agent shortstop Troy Tulowitzki.

The Cubs plan to send a scout to Tulo's upcoming workout to get a feel for what he has left in the tank. With the Blue Jays on the hook for most of his salary, the 34-year-old could wind up being a nice bargain at the veteran's minimum, provided he's able to stay healthy, which is something he has struggled with throughout his career. The Tulowitzki camp has said that they plan to narrow the field of suitors soon.

Matt Chapman had his left shoulder scoped on Friday in what was termed a "minor cleanup procedure".

The Athletics announced Friday that Chapman should be able to resume swinging in six weeks. They made the decision to have the procedure done after the third baseman felt discomfort during offseason workouts. Barring any setbacks, he'll be healthy and ready to roll for the start of spring training.

Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports that Kevin Pillar is "one name discussed" by the Giants' front office.

Steven Duggar is expected to open the season as the Giants' primary center fielder, but the club wouldn't mind finding a platoon partner to play against lefties and they're also considering the benefits of having two center fielder types on the field at the same time. Pillar is only a career .261/.298/.398 hitter but is one of the best defensive center fielders in the game. He's under team control through 2020.

Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports that the Mets have discussed a possible Nicholas Castellanos trade with the Tigers.

There's no indication at this point that the talks have advanced past the preliminary stage, but it's no surprise at this point to see Brodie Van Wagenen and the Mets connected to another player on the trade block. Fenech notes that the asking price for Castellanos is "high" even though he's only under contract for one more year. The Mets could use a center fielder much more than a corner outfielder, so it remains to be seen whether talks for Castellanos gain any traction.

The Orioles officially announced the hiring of Brandon Hyde as their new manager on Friday.

It was reported on Tuesday that Hyde would be the Orioles' pick, and they will introduce him at a press conference on Monday. Hyde had been a coach with the Cubs since 2013 and prior to that was a coach with the Marlins.

Mets signed RHP Jeurys Familia to a three-year, $30 million contract.

The deal was first reported on Thursday and is now official after Familia passed a physical. He has returned to his original organization, this time in a setup role ahead of new closer Edwin Diaz. Familia put up a 3.13 ERA with 83 strikeouts over 72 innings this past season for the Mets and Athletics.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that has agreed to terms with the Padres on a two-year, $8 million contract, pending a physical.

It's a bit of a surprise that the 36-year-old got a multi-year deal, but the Padres aren't risking much money here. Kinsler batted just .240/.301/.380 with 14 home runs and 16 stolen bases last season for the Angels and Red Sox in a second straight down year at the plate. Per Rosenthal, the Padres plan to keep Luis Urias at second base and use Kinsler at third base and in a leadership role for Urias and Fernando Tatis, Jr.
Dec 14 - 3:12 PM

Tigers signed SS Jordy Mercer to a one-year, $5.25 million contract.

The deal was reported earlier this week and has now been made official. Mercer batted only .251/.315/.381 last season for the Pirates and missed some time due to injury, but he should be a bit of an upgrade offensively over Jose Iglesias and is a solid defender, as well.
Dec 14 - 2:38 PM

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports that the White Sox and James McCann have agreed to terms on a contract, pending a physical.

Jon Heyman of Fancred Sports says it's a one-year, $2.5 million deal. McCann was non-tendered by the Tigers last month but will stay in the American League Central. He will back up Welington Castillo with the Pale Hose. McCann batted .220/.267/.314 with eight homers last season.

Jerry Crasnick reports that the Angels' top current target in free agency is Wilson Ramos.

Ramos has been linked with several clubs, including the Dodgers. It's been reported that the veteran backstop is looking for multi-year offers, but teams could be hesitant to give them because of his long history with injuries. He also is one of the best offensive catchers in baseball, and hit .306/.358/.487 with the Rays and Phillies last year. This would certainly lengthen the Angels' lineup, and he'd be a massive upgrade from what they got behind the plate in 2018.
