Didi Gregorius slugged two home runs in the Yankees' thrashing of the Marlins on Monday.

Gregorius hit a two-run shot off Tyler Cloyd in the bottom of the fourth and a solo blast off Chris O'Grady in the bottom of the seventh. He also drew a walk in the 12-1 rout of Miami, finishing the night 2-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. The power-hitting 28-year-old shortstop boasts a .327/.446/.796 batting line with five home runs, 16 RBI, and 14 runs scored in 15 games this season.

Orioles acquired OF Yusniel Diaz, RHP Zach Pop, RHP Dean Kremer, 3B Rylan Bannon and INF Breyvic Valera from the Dodgers for SS Manny Machado.

Diaz, 21, is the best prospect involved in the trade for Machado, and is an outstanding get for a player that was very likely to be playing elsewhere in 2018 as Machado was. He’s an outfielder who has above-average tools across the board, and his patience at the plate along with his use of all fields makes the hit tool plus. There’s very little left to be done here in terms of development, so Diaz could help the Orioles before the end of the 2019 season.

Dodgers acquired SS Manny Machado from the Orioles for OF Yusniel Diaz, RHP Zach Pop, RHP Dean Kremer, 3B Rylan Bannon, and INF Breyic Valera.

This has been rumored for quite some time, but it's now official. The Orioles also entertained offers from the Phillies, Brewers and Diamondbacks -- among others -- but they're able to get five prospects for the 26-year-old shortstop. Machado's defense at shortstop hasn't been spectacular according to the metrics, but he's been tremendous with the bat, hitting .315/.375/.583 with 24 homers and 65 RBI over the first half. An already powerful Dodger lineup gets even better, and he should put up big numbers in his time with Los Angeles.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Brewers could target Brian Dozier in trade talks.

The Brewers were involved in the Manny Machado sweepstakes, but ultimately couldn't offer -- or wouldn't offer -- what the Dodgers were willing to procure the services of the All-Star shortstop. Dozier started slow, but he's been excellent as of late, and the second baseman has 16 homers and 48 RBI over 93 games with the Twins. He could give the Milwaukee lineup a big boost, and shouldn't have near the cost Machado did. Rosenthal also mentions that the Brewers could look for pitching help, and they should have enough in the system to explore both.

Nick Tropeano will start against the Astros on Saturday.

Tropeano has been on the disabled list since June 15 with right shoulder inflammation. He's made a couple of rehab starts since the beginning of July, and he's now ready to rejoin a Los Angeles rotation that has been decimated with injuries in 2018. In 10 starts this season, Tropeano owns a 4.83 ERA with a 1.352 WHIP and 44 strikeouts in 54 innings.

Josh Harrison (hamstring) is hoping to return to the Pirates' lineup this weekend.

Harrison had to be lifted from the final game before the All-Star break with a left hamstring injury, but the Pirates are optimistic they could the ailment before it got serious. He'll test out the hamstring with a workout Thursday and hopes to be back in there at some point over the weekend.
Jul 18 - 5:24 PM

Rays placed C Wilson Ramos on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to July 15, with a left hamstring strain.

Ramos suffered the injury last Saturday and he's expected to be sidelined at least for the remainder of the month. He is one of the Rays' biggest trade chips, but it appears that they might have to wait until August after the non-waiver deadline to deal him. Ramos is hitting an impressive .297/.346/.488 with 14 home runs and 53 RBI this season. Jesus Sucre will receive the bulk of the starts behind the plate while Ramos is out and the club will need to call up another catcher prior to Friday's game.

Yoenis Cespedes (hip) hit a three-run homer and played nine innings at first base Wednesday in a rehab game with the Mets' affiliate in the Gulf Coast League.

Cespedes has now played three straight days on the farm and should be a go for the Mets' first game out of the of the All-Star break on Friday night at Yankee Stadium. He can DH in that three-game set before returning to left field (and maybe trying some first base) next week. The 32-year-old slugger has been on the shelf since May 13 because of hip and quad injuries.
Jul 18 - 3:19 PM

Miles Mikolas (paternity) will start for the Cardinals in Sunday's series finale against the Cubs.

Mikolas skipped his first All-Star Game to be with his wife, who is expecting twins, and he was officially placed on the paternity leave list by the Cardinals on Wednesday. But the 29-year-old right-hander won't wind up missing a turn in the rotation. Carlos Martinez is set to start Thursday's series opener at Wrigley Field, with Jack Flaherty pitching Friday and Luke Weaver and John Gant handling the doubleheader on Saturday. Mikolas will then take the mound on Sunday night.
Jul 18 - 3:00 PM

Reds placed OF Scott Schebler on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to July 15, with an AC sprain in his right shoulder.

Schebler hurt his shoulder last Saturday when he banged against the outfield wall in St. Louis while making a catch on a Yadier Molina fly ball. AC shoulder sprains can sometimes take over a month to recover from, though the severity of this particular one is currently unclear. Schebler holds a respectable .821 OPS with 12 home runs, 37 RBI, three stolen bases, and 42 runs scored in 76 games this season for a better-than-expected Reds team. Adam Duvall and Jesse Winker will be everyday players to open the second half in Cincinnati.

Major League Baseball announced Wednesday that Josh Hader will not be suspended for his past racist and homophobic tweets.

That ugly Twitter history was uncovered as Hader was pitching in the eighth inning of Tuesday night's All-Star Game. Most of the tweets were sent when Hader was 17 years old (in 2011-2012) and he apologized in the National League clubhouse after the game, telling a scrum of reporters that he was "ready for any consequences" that might come. Here is the statement from MLB: "During last night's game we became aware of Mr. Hader's unacceptable social media comments in years past and have since been in communication with the Brewers regarding our shared concerns. After the game, Mr. Hader took the necessary step of expressing remorse for his highly offensive and hurtful language, which fails to represent the values of our game and our expectations for all of those who are part of it. The Office of the Commissioner will require sensitivity training for Mr. Hader and participation in MLB's diversity and inclusion initiatives."

Alex Bregman belted a go-ahead solo homer in the top of the 10th inning Tuesday as the American League beat the National League 8-6 in the 2018 MLB All-Star Game in Washington, D.C.

Reds second baseman Scooter Gennett tied things up in the bottom of the ninth with a two-run homer off Mariners closer Edwin Diaz, but Bregman and the American League All-Stars quickly got revenge, plating three runs off Dodgers starter Ross Stripling in the first frame of extras to seal the deal. Bregman and his Astros teammate George Springer went back-to-back to lead off the top of the 10th and then Jean Segura and Mitch Moreland both singled, with Segura eventually being driven in on a sacrifice fly for the AL's eighth run of the affair. There were 10 total home runs hit on the night, a new All-Star Game record. The previous record was six. Bregman was named the MVP.
