Carlos Martinez is undergoing a follow-up MRI on his strained right lat.

The hope is the scan will show that his lat has improved since he landed on the disabled list last Thursday. Martinez has already missed one turn in the Cardinals' rotation and will miss at least one more. John Gant is expected to slide into his spot this weekend, though nothing is official yet on that front.

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN reports that the Mets trade of Jeurys Familia to the Athletics is now in the medical review stage.

That means that the clubs have worked on the specifics on the players and the amount of money that will change hands in the deal, and should be completed as long as no red flags are raised during the physicals. It's still unclear who the Mets will recieve in the return package for Familia and how much money the Mets will include.

Red Sox activated 3B Rafael Devers from the 10-day disabled list.

As expected, Devers will return to the lineup for Saturday's game against the Tigers. The 21-year-old third baseman was hitting .241/.292/.424 with 14 homers, 48 RBI and five stolen bases prior to landing on the disabled list on July 12 with left shoulder inflammation.

Cardinals placed RHP Carlos Martinez on the 10-day disabled list with a right oblique strain.

Martinez suffered the injury during his miserable outing against the Cubs on Thursday. It's unclear how long the 26-year-old hurler will be sidelined, but oblique injuries generally tend to linger for a couple of weeks. Martinez has made 17 starts for the Cardinals this season, registering a 3.39 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 89/48 K/BB ratio over 95 2/3 innings while beaning a league-high 11 batters.

Rockies manager Bud Black said after Friday's game that DJ LeMahieu will be placed on the disabled list with his oblique injury.

Black also indicated that it's related to the back issue that he dealt with before the break. Expect Pat Valaika to see more action at second base while LeMahieu is on the shelf.

Jose Ramirez became the first MLB player to reach 30 home runs on the season as the Indians defeated the Rangers in 11 innings on Friday night.

Ramirez accomplished the feat with a solo shot off of Martin Perez that tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth inning. He was also instrumental in the Indians' game-winning rally in the 11th inning, as he socked a leadoff double then dashed home on a single by Edwin Encarnacion. Ramirez has been on a power surge, as he now has six home runs in his last seven games. He has also already set a new career-high with the 30 long balls. Ramirez is having a phenomenal season at the dish, slashing .302/.400/.635 with 30 homers, 71 RBI and 20 stolen bases.

Manny Machado went 2-for-3 with two walks in his Dodgers’ debut Friday against the Brewers.

Machado poked an opposite-field single through the shift in his first at-bat in the first inning. He walked in his next two plate appearances before singling again in the seventh. He batted second in his Dodgers’ debut on Friday, but manager Dave Roberts said he could also be used out of the No. 3 spot in the order. The ballpark change isn’t ideal from a fantasy perspective, but he remains in a good spot to knock in runs.

Buster Olney of ESPN reports that Mets closer Jeurys Familia will be traded to the Athletics if the two sides can finish the deal.

Olney earlier reported that the Mets had agreed to the structure of a deal involving Familia and an unknown team. If the structure of the deal is in place, it likely means that money is the final hurdle, and the Mets have reportedly said they're willing to include cash with Familia to get a better return. With a 2.88 ERA and 43 strikeouts over 40 2/3 innings, the 29-year-old right-hander would give Oakland an excellent bridge to Blake Treinen and give the Athletics one of the better bullpens in the American League.
Jul 20 - 11:42 PM

Yoenis Cespedes went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, a walk, and two runs scored against the Yankees on Friday in his return from the disabled list.

Cespedes didn’t show any signs of rust at the plate despite it being his first game action in the majors in over two months. He went deep against Domingo German in the third inning with a shot which bounced off the left field foul pole. The Mets brought him back as the designated hitter for the interleague series against the Yankees and he figures to stay there all weekend. He’s going to be handled with care moving forward, with the possibility that he could even see time at first base on occasion.

Yankees optioned RHP Domingo German to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

German got the boot after lasting just 3 2/3 innings while giving up four runs in Friday’s loss to the Mets. He's completed five innings just once in the past month and has seen his ERA rise to 5.68 for the year. Luis Cessa will take his place in the rotation for now, but the Yankees will obviously be on the lookout for rotation help this month.
Jul 20 - 11:10 PM

Braves manager Brian Snitker told reporters after Friday's game that the team will "stay away" from Ozzie Albies as he deals with a right hamstring injury for a couple of days.

That likely means that Albies will miss the rest of the series with Washington, and there's a good chance that he could miss the two-game series with the Marlins that starts on Monday. That would put Albies back on Thursday against the Dodgers, so a trip to the 10-day disabled list could be possible. It sounds like the Braves think that won't be necessary, but it's certainly something to keep an eye on.
Jul 20 - 11:00 PM

Derek Dietrich went 3-for-4 with two home runs, four RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base Friday versus the Rays.

Dietrich connected for a solo shot off Nathan Eovaldi in the third inning and later slugged a three-run shot against Hoby Milner in the seventh. This was his second career multi-homer game. Dietrich has produced an impressive .293/.357/.471 batting line through 94 games this season and is now tied for his career-high with 13 homers. He’s obviously in good position to blow that number away in the second half, though it’s unclear whether he’ll do with the Marlins or a contender.
