Shohei Ohtani is batting second again on Wednesday against the Astros.

Ohtani will be sandwiched between Mike Trout and Justin Upton against Justin Verlander on Tuesday night. The two-way sensation is hitting a ridiculous .342/.385/.630 on the season with five homers and 16 RBI in 21 games for the Angels in 2018.

Mike Trout went 2-for-5 with a solo homer, his 35th of the year, and a stolen base in the Angels’ 9-7 win over the Athletics on Tuesday.

Trout swatted a 408-foot solo homer to left-center field off Athletics reliever Daniel Mengden in the fourth inning. He also singled and stole a base, his 24th of the year, in the ninth inning. The 27-year-old superstar owns a major league-leading .466 on-base percentage this year. He's hitting .319 with 95 runs scored, 35 homers, 71 RBI and 24 stolen bases in 572 plate appearances.

Chris Taylor drilled a walk-off homer in the 10th inning to lift the Dodgers to a critical 3-2 extra-inning victory over the division-rival Rockies on Tuesday.

Taylor connected on his first career walk-off home run against Rockies reliever Adam Ottavino to increase the Dodgers’ lead in the National League West to 1 1/2 games over Colorado. It was his 17th round-tripper of the year. He finished the night 2-for-4 with a walk out of the leadoff spot. The 28-year-old utility specialist is hitting .250/.327/.448 with 77 runs scored, 17 dingers, 61 RBI and nine stolen bases in 571 plate appearances.

Javier Baez went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and a pair of runs scored in the Cubs’ 9-1 blowout win over the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Baez connected on an 87-mph slider from Diamondbacks starter Matt Andriese, launching a 408-foot blast to right-center field in the first inning. He also singled and came around to score a run in the fifth inning. It was his 49th multi-hit effort in 148 games this year. The 25-year-old middle infielder has evolved into a true five-category fantasy superstar, hitting .295/.329/.571 with 96 runs scored, a career-high 33 homers, 107 RBI and 21 stolen bases in 594 plate appearances. He’s one of only 11 middle infielders to record a 30-homer, 20-steal season in the last two decades.
Sep 19 - 12:55 AM

Blake Snell allowed just a single over five scoreless innings Tuesday to pick up his 20th victory in the Rays' 4-0 win over the Rangers.

Snell wasn't very efficient tonight, but that was fine; the Rangers have already mailed it in. Snell has allowed a total of seven runs while winning eight straight starts, and his ERA is all of the way down to 1.97. He's the first pitcher to 20 wins this year, and he's gotten there despite throwing just 169 innings to date.
Sep 19 - 12:16 AM

Stephen Strasburg fanned 11 while holding the Marlins to two runs in six innings Tuesday.

Strasburg had a poor first start back from the DL last month, but he's given up a total of 10 runs and struck out 38 in 30 2/3 innings in his last five outings. He's 3-0 in that span and 9-7 with a 3.83 ERA overall. His only two truly bad outings this year came immediately upon returning from his DL stints.
Sep 18 - 11:44 PM

Paul DeJong clubbed a two-run home run and added an RBI single Tuesday in the Cardinals' victory over the Braves.

Jose Martinez singled for the Cards' first hit with one out in the fourth inning and DeJong followed that with his second dinger in as many nights. He added some cushion with an RBI single in the eighth. DeJong now has 11 home runs and 43 RBI since the All-Star break even though he's hitting only .220.

Jameson Taillon dominated the Royals on Tuesday night, fanning a career-high 11 batters across seven shutout frames but taking a no-decision in the Pirates’ 2-1 extra-innings win.

Taillon and Eric Skoglund traded zeroes in this one before the Pirates finally broke through against the Royals’ bullpen. The Pittsburgh righty did need a little help in the seventh, as Pablo Reyes threw out a runner at home plate for an inning-ending double play. Taillon permitted just four hits and one walk on the night to go along with his 11 punchouts but was saddled with a no-decision after a blown save. He’s been terrific over the last several weeks and faced little resistance from an overmatched Royals offense on Tuesday night while lowering his season ERA to 3.24. Taillon faces the Cubs at Wrigley next.

Mookie Betts (side) is expected to DH on Wednesday against the Yankees.

Betts was unavailable Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium after exiting Sunday's series finale against the Mets due to discomfort in his left side, but it's nothing overly serious. The 25-year-old MVP candidate is batting .337/.431/.619 with 29 home runs, 72 RBI, 28 stolen bases, and 118 runs scored in 129 games this season.

Lorenzo Cain left Tuesday night's game against the Reds due to a sore intercostal muscle.

Cain initially tweaked his intercostal on a swing a few days ago, and it apparently stiffened up on him after four innings Tuesday. Keon Broxton took over in center field for the Brewers in the top of the fifth. It sounds like Cain will ultimately be fine, but any days missed are obviously hurtful at this point in the season.
Sep 18 - 10:54 PM

Neil Walker slugged a go-ahead three-run home run in the seventh inning of the Yankees' comeback victory over the Red Sox on Tuesday.

Nathan Eovaldi held the Bombers in check for six innings, but Brandon Workman and Ryan Brasier coughed up the lead an inning later, with the latter serving up the longball to Walker. It was a no-doubter that reached the second deck in right field at Yankee Stadium. The home run was the first this month for Walker, who was making just his second start in over a week.
Sep 18 - 10:38 PM

Corey Kluber punched out 11 batters while allowing three runs over eight innings in the Indians' 5-3 victory over the White Sox on Tuesday.

The White Sox took Kluber deep twice in the sixth inning, but they were both solo shots. The ace was pitching on seven days' rest and certainly looked strong in this one as he recorded his sixth double-digit strikeout game of the season. Two of those outings have come against the White Sox. Kluber will face a stiffer test Sunday versus the Red Sox.
