Starlin Castro went 4-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Dodgers.

He laced a single to center that plated Martin Prado in the third inning. The multi-hit game boosts the second baseman's batting average to an even .300 on the season. He doesn't have much power or speed but he can put the barrel on the ball consistently. He has two homers, 19 RBI and 25 runs scored through 42 games. He has stolen as many as 25 bases in a single season in the past but has just one swipe thus far this year.

Aroldis Chapman left Tuesday night's game against the Marlins with an apparent injury.

Chapman got a visit from a trainer after his sixth pitch in the bottom of the 12th inning at Marlins Park. It appeared that he was pleading to stay in the game, so that might be a positive sign, but his velocity was down considerably. There should be an update from the Yankees whenever this one concludes. Dellin Betances or David Robertson could be next in line for saves should Chapman's injury prove to be something significant.

Kevin Gausman tossed eight shutout innings Tuesday in the Braves' 6-1 victory over the Pirates.

Gausman had to pitch out of jams in the second, sixth and seventh innings but was able to do so without any damage being done. He ultimately yielded just four hits on the night while walking two and striking out five. Gausman didn't pitch well in his first start as a Brave but has been excellent in three outings since, allowing only three runs over his last 22 innings. The righty has surrendered just one home run over his first four starts for the Braves after giving up 21 in 21 outings with the Orioles. He has a juicy matchup Sunday in Miami.

Dansby Swanson swatted a pair of two-run home runs Tuesday in Pittsburgh.

Swanson lined one just over the wall down the left-field line in the fifth inning off of Ivan Nova and then took reliever Michael Felix deep out to left-center in the seventh. It's the first multi-homer game in the young shortstop's major league career but the fourth longball over his last nine contests. Swanson has reached base in 11 straight games.

Tommy Pham has been diagnosed with a dislocated right ring finger.

Pham suffered the injury Tuesday night against the Royals while diving back into the first base bag in the bottom of the eighth inning. X-rays turned up negative for any fractures and the Rays are calling him day-to-day, but this could very well turn into another extended absence for the 30-year-old outfielder. He just missed two weeks of action after fracturing his right foot in just his second game with Tampa Bay.

Jose Abreu underwent surgery Tuesday on his lower abdomen (or groin area) and is not expected to resume baseball activities for two weeks.

Well, that escalated quickly. Abreu was scratched from the White Sox starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Twins due to what was called lower abdominal pain, and now comes word that he'll be sidelined through at least the early part of September. The first baseman had been on a tear, slashing .350/.400/.699 with nine home runs, nine doubles, and 26 RBI over his last 26 games. Matt Davidson played first base for the White Sox on Tuesday, with Daniel Palka at DH.

Buster Posey (hip) is expected to play Wednesday.

John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reported Tuesday evening that Posey is facing season-ending hip surgery to repair his labrum and clean out bone spurs, but that procedure apparently won't happen right away as the Giants don't want to wave the white flag on 2018 just yet. They're currently 7 1/2 games back of the Diamondbacks for first place in the National League West standings and seven games out of the crowded hunt for the second National League Wild Card slot. Nick Hundley is starting behind the plate for the Giants on Tuesday versus the Mets.
Aug 21 - 8:04 PM

Angels placed OF Justin Upton on the 10-day disabled list with a left index finger laceration.

That explains his absence from the Angels' starting lineup for Tuesday night's series opener against the Diamondbacks. Upton sliced his finger on a wine glass at his home in Arizona on Sunday night and needed four stitches. It's unclear how long he might be sidelined. Jabari Blash will be called up from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move.
Aug 21 - 7:23 PM

George Springer (quad) remains out of the Astros' starting lineup on Tuesday.

Springer was scratched from Monday's series opener at Seattle's Safeco Field due to soreness in his left quadriceps. He is still considered day-to-day. Tony Kemp will start in center field and bat ninth Tuesday versus Mariners right-hander Mike Leake.
Aug 21 - 7:15 PM

Nelson Cruz is out of the Mariners' starting lineup on Tuesday due to back spasms.

The veteran slugger is considered day-to-day. Robinson Cano will serve as the Mariners' DH and bat second Tuesday night against the Astros, who are starting Brad Peacock in what will essentially be a bullpen game.
Aug 21 - 6:42 PM

Nationals activated RHP Kelvin Herrera from the 10-day disabled list.

Herrera will be available out of the Nationals' bullpen on Tuesday night against the Phillies after missing two weeks with a right rotator cuff impingement. He could immediately jump back into the fill-in closer role, pushing Koda Glover into more of a setup gig. Sean Doolittle (foot) seems to be a couple weeks away still.
Aug 21 - 6:28 PM

Astros activated 2B Jose Altuve from the 10-day disabled list.

Altuve will return to the Astros' starting lineup on Tuesday night in Seattle after missing a little under a month with right knee discomfort. The star second baseman was batting .329/.392/.464 with nine home runs, 46 RBI, 14 stolen bases, and 64 runs scored in 104 games before the injury.
