Francisco Cervelli has been taking grounders at first base.

Cervelli has taken a beating behind the plate in recent years, suffering multiple concussions including one last month. A move to first base could extend Cervelli's career while also creating more at-bats for Elias Diaz, who has impressed in limited at-bats this year. "Buster Posey’s been the perfect model for this in San Francisco," said manager Clint Hurdler. "They keep a productive bat in the lineup, frees up your second catcher to catch." Cervelli has made six career starts at first base with his last appearance there coming in 2016.

Jeremy Hellickson allowed one run over six innings with six strikeouts in a 6-1 victory over the Mets on Sunday.

Hellickson allowed just two hits, and he walked two. It makes back-to-back strong starts for the right-hander after his nine-run start against the Marlins on July 5. Signed to a minor league contract this spring, Hellickson has beaten expectations, posting a 3.29 ERA and 1.05 WHIP over 13 starts and 63 innings. His next start will come after the All-Star break, but it has yet to be scheduled.

Manny Machado went 1-for-1 with a homer and a walk in a 6-5 victory over the Rangers on Sunday.

Machado's homer was his 24th of the season, and it came off of Mike Minor in the first inning with no one on. There's at least a chance that this was the last time we see Machado in a Baltimore uniform -- not counting the All-Star game -- as trade rumors run rampant for his services. Whatever team acquires him will betting a hitter who has a line of .315/.387/.575 with 65 RBI and eight stolen bases on nine attempts.

Red Sox' manager Alex Cora announced Sunday that Eduardo Rodriguez has "serious damage" to the ligaments in his right ankle.

He won't require surgery, and the Red Sox are optimistic that he'll be able to pitch again this season, but that isn't a certainty. He'll be in a walking boot for the next two weeks before being re-evaluated. It's a crushing blow to his fantasy value for the 2018 season. The 25-year-old southpaw has been a major asset in mixed leagues, posting an 11-3 record, 3.44 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 110/32 K/BB ratio across his 104 2/3 innings.

Julio Teheran pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings in a win over the Diamondbacks on Sunday.

Teheran allowed just four hits against the Arizona lineup, and while he did walk three, he was able to fan six and keep anything from crossing the plate. It’s been a bit of a mixed first-half for the right-hander, but when Teheran has been on, he’s been excellent. He’ll take a 4.00 ERA into his first start after the All-Star break, but that start has yet to be announced as Atlanta hasn’t set their second-half rotation just yet.

Josh Harrison was pulled from Sunday's game against the Brewers with left hamstring discomfort.

Harrison was injured while running out a grounder. He's being treated and examined further and an update on his condition figures to be available after the game.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Phillies and Giants are showing interest in Jeurys Familia.

Olney says that National League teams have been at the "forefront" of trade talks involving the Mets' closer. The Phillies are also interested in Zach Britton and could wait until his situations is resolved before they turn to their apparent Plan B in Familia. Familia is slated for free agency after the season.

ESPN's Buster Olney was told by a source that the Manny Machado trade talks are at the "10-yard-line."

The same source told him a week ago that talks were at the 35-yard-line, for what it's worth. The Phillies, Brewers and Dodgers appear to have emerged as the three favorites for Machado and are "waiting for the goal line call," per Olney. The Yankees had been heavily involved in the Machado sweepstakes but appear to have fallen behind the pack at this point. It seems unlikely at this point that Machado will be traded before the All-Star break, but a deal sometime later this week is looking fairly likely.

Giants placed RHP Jeff Samardzija on the 10-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation.

Samardzija lasted just two unproductive starts before going back on the DL with the same injury that cost him a month earlier this season. He will undergo an MRI before hopefully more is known about how much time he might miss this time around. Derek Holland will go back into the rotation with Samardzija sidelined.

Astros manager A.J. Hinch said Sunday that the team still doesn't have a rehab plan for Carlos Correa (back).

The hope had been that Correa would be ready to begin a rehab assignment over the All-Star break, but that's not going to happen. "He's not doing anything aggressively on the field that would warrant a plan in place to send him out [on rehab]," Hinch said. Of the possibility that Correa could return sometime during the club's July 20-25 road trip, the manager said, "I certainly can’t rule him in. I’m not going to rule him out." It's obviously not an encouraging update on the status of Correa, whose game readiness keeps getting pushed back. He's been sidelined since late June with lower back soreness.

Pirates optioned OF Austin Meadows to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Meadows hadn't started any of the team's last seven games, so a demotion was overdue. He'll play regularly back at Indy. Meadows batted just .204/.259/.245 over his last 19 games.

Gleyber Torres (hip) took batting practice Sunday.

Torres is continuing his rehab progression from a right hip strain and is slated to play in rehab games at High-A Tampa in a few days. He could rejoin the Yankees for the start of the second half next weekend.
