Anthony Rendon hit a pair of home runs, driving in three, and he also scored three runs to help the Nationals edge the Mets 5-4 on Thursday.

The Nationals had Mets starter Steven Matz in trouble a few times but only Rendon could deliver blows, smacking a two-run homer in the first inning before knocking a solo shot in the third. He's now got 15 homers, 44 RBI and 41 runs scored with a handful of games left in the first half, and he's hitting a healthy .285/.349/.534. He's on track to set a new career high in homers if he keeps it up into the second half.

Kyle Hendricks went 7 2/3 innings while allowing just one run and striking out five in a victory over the White Sox on Sunday.

A very strong effort for Hendricks, which shouldn’t surprise anyone. The right-hander gave up just four hits, and he didn’t put anyone on via walk. There were some struggles earlier in the 2018 campaign for Hendricks, but for over a month now, he’s been outstanding. The start lowers his ERA to 3.49 and WHIP to 1.15 in 191 innings. He’s scheduled to start again against the Cardinals on Friday, but that could change if the Cubs chose to adjust their rotation for the playoffs. If he’s on your roster, you’ll want to keep an eye out.

Miles Mikolas allowed just two runs -- one earned -- over seven innings Sunday in the Cardinals' 9-2 defeat of the Giants.

Mikolas struck out eight batters and didn't issue a walk in a brilliant afternoon outing as the Cardinals completed a three-game weekend sweep of San Francisco. He gave up just two hits -- one of them a Brandon Crawford two-run homer that came shortly after a Yairo Munoz fielding error in the top of the seventh. Mikolas now has 17 wins on the season and a 2.94 ERA. His final regular-season start will come next weekend at Wrigley Field.

Christian Yelich went 2-for-3 with a homer, three RBI, a walk, a stolen base, and two runs scored Sunday in the Brewers' 13-6 rout of the Pirates.

The beat goes on for Yelich, who has emerged as one of the favorites for National League MVP amid a blistering second half performance. He's up to 32 home runs, 96 RBI, 21 steals, and 108 runs scored in 140 total games this season, to go along with a stellar .322/.391/.577 batting line.
Sep 23 - 5:03 PM

Yankees manager Aaron Boone announced Sunday that Didi Gregorius tore cartilage in his wrist while sliding into home plate on Saturday and that there's a chance he may not return this season.

It's unclear exactly how long he'll be sidelined or if he'd be able to return should the Yankees advance past the Wild Card game. It's a crushing blow for the Yankees, who already had to play without Gregorius once this season. Adeiny Hechavarria started in his place on Sunday and will see the bulk of the action at shortstop while Gregorius is sidelined.
Sep 23 - 4:54 PM

Tim Beckham notched his first multi-homer game as an Oriole in Baltimore’s 6-3 victory over the Yankees on Sunday.

Making a start in the designated hitter spot, Beckham got J.A. Happ in the second inning with a solo shot for his first dinger of the day. He then took reliever A.J. Cole deep with a two-run blast in the sixth. It was the third multi-homer game of Beckham’s career but his first while donning an Orioles uniform. He had entered the day with just a .408 OPS over his last 10 contests.

Blake Snell struck out 11 batters over 6 2/3 shutout frames to record his major league-leading 21st win of the year against the Blue Jays on Sunday.

Snell gave up only three hits and issued a pair of walks over six-plus stellar frames. He didn’t allow a base runner until Richard Urena reached with a two-out single in the third inning. He ran into trouble in the fifth, issuing back-to-back walks with two outs, but managed to escape by whiffing Urena to end the threat. The 25-year-old left-hander is the 10th pitcher to record 21 wins in a single season since 2009. He's the clear front-runner for the American League Cy Young Award entering the final week of the regular season. He’s 21-5 with a 1.90 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 211/60 K/BB ratio in 30 starts. He’s slated for a rematch against the Blue Jays in his final start of the season on Friday.
Sep 23 - 4:22 PM

Charlie Morton was forced to leave Sunday's start against the Angels after only one inning due to right shoulder discomfort.

It's the same shoulder that forced Morton to the disabled list earlier in the season. The timing is unfortunate, as it puts his availability for the postseason in jeopardy. If he's unable to work in the postseason rotation, expect Lance McCullers to work as the club's fourth starter.
Sep 23 - 4:13 PM

Adalberto Mondesi went 2-for-5 with a homer and double in a 3-2 victory over the Tigers on Sunday.

Mondesi continues his impressive play, hitting his 13th double of the year, and taking Daniel Norris deep for the 12th homer of the season in just 69 games and 251 at-bats. When you combine those numbers with 26 steals in 33 attempts, you get a player that’s been among the best shortstops in fantasy baseball over the second half of the season. The question is whether the 23-year-old can keep this up over a full season. The talent suggests he can.
Sep 23 - 4:02 PM

Starling Marte departed Sunday's game against the Brewers with left calf tightness.

Marte first felt something in the calf while running to first base in the fourth inning and he was eventually pinch-hit for in the fifth. The Pirates could have more on his status after the game, but it would seem to be something that could prematurely end his season.
Sep 23 - 3:41 PM

Trevor Story (elbow) remained out of the Rockies' lineup Sunday.

Story went through a workout Sunday and reportedly looked good, but the Rockies decided to hold him out for a fifth straight game. He should have a good shot to be back in there Monday when the team returns home. Garrett Hampson is at shortstop Sunday.
Sep 23 - 3:24 PM

Charlie Morton left Sunday's start against the Angels after just one inning with an apparent injury.

Morton allowed one run in his lone inning of work and his velocity was noticeably down. It's unclear at this point what ailment he's dealing with, but he returned from a shoulder injury earlier this month. The Astros should have more on Morton's status soon.
