Wil Myers (foot) has been taking grounders at third base during pregame lately.

It doesn't sound like it's a position Myers could play regularly -- or at all -- this season, but it's something interesting to note for the future. Myers made 15 starts at third base in the minors but the last one there came back in 2012. He's expected to be activated from the disabled list early next week.

Jay Bruce (hip) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with High-A St. Lucie.

Bruce is expected to play right field on Tuesday before moving to first base on Wednesday. He's going to need some time to shake the rust, but the Mets also want to prepare him for his role after coming off the disabled list. Bruce has been out since mid-June with a right hip strain.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said following Monday's game that Brian Dozier will be sent for further testing after an EKG test for cardiac rhythms revealed "abnormalities."

This was after Dozier left Monday's game against the Giants due to dizziness. The Dodgers will obviously take every precaution before clearing him to return to game action. There should be more clarity on his status in the next couple of days.

Clayton Kershaw fanned nine batters over eight innings in a no-decision against the Giants on Monday.

Kershaw was masterful in this one, generating 16 swinging strikes with his three-pitch repertoire and limiting the Giants to a single run on four hits over eight frames. He struck out nine batters, his most in a single-start since April 15. He did not issue a walk and threw 78 of 110 pitches for strikes. He departed in line for the win, but the Dodgers' bullpen imploded in the ninth. The 30-year-old southpaw is 5-5 with a 2.47 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and sublime 108/19 K/BB ratio in 18 starts. He'll face the Mariners on the road in his next start on Sunday.

Jed Lowrie went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and four RBI in the Athletics’ 7-6 victory over the Mariners on Monday.

Lowrie kicked off the scoring with an RBI single to right field off Mariners starter Marco Gonzales in the first inning. He also slapped a two-run double to left field in the second and an RBI double off reliever Casey Lawrence in the sixth. The 34-year-old second baseman has been mired in an extreme slump in recent weeks, hitting just .210 (17-for-81) with a pair of home runs and 12 RBI since a mid-July collision with teammate Stephen Piscotty, which resulted in a left leg contusion. If he’s finally healthy again, Lowrie is primed for a monster six-week stretch to close out the regular season.
Aug 14 - 1:42 AM

Nicholas Castellanos went 5-for-5 with a homer, two doubles and five RBI to lead the Tigers past the White Sox 9-5 on Monday.

It's a good thing Castellanos didn't have to miss a second straight game with a bruised foot. The five-hit game was a first for him. He had five RBI on five occasions previously. Castellanos entered the game in an 8-for-48 slump with one homer, two RBI and a 16/1 K/BB ratio in his previous 12 games.

Brandon Crawford was lifted from Monday's game versus the Dodgers following a collision in the outfield with Gorkys Hernandez.

Crawford took a knee to the head in the collision in the bottom of the fourth inning. He stayed in to bat in the top of the fifth and flied out but was then pulled. The Giants should have more on Crawford's status soon, but he'll likely be put through concussion tests.

Matt Carpenter hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning Monday in the Cardinals' win over the Nationals.

Carpenter's big fly was spoiled momentarily by a Bud Norris blown save, but Paul DeJong slugged a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth as the Cardinals won their sixth straight game. Carpenter leads all National League hitters with 33 home runs and has upped his OPS to .989. The 32-year-old has a legitimate MVP case.
Aug 13 - 11:42 PM

Paul DeJong hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth inning Monday in the Cardinals' 7-6 defeat of the Nationals.

DeJong was 0-for-4 and had left six men on base before stepping in as the leadoff man in the bottom of the ninth and he promptly deposited a ball over the left field wall to give the Cardinals their sixth straight victory. St. Louis is now 17-9 since firing manager Mike Matheny and very much alive in the National League Wild Card race.
Aug 13 - 11:38 PM

Robinson Chirinos went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in the Rangers' win over the Diamondbacks on Monday.

Chirinos belted a go-ahead three-run homer off Zack Greinke in the bottom of the fourth inning and gave the Rangers an insurance run with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth. The 34-year-old catcher now has a .781 OPS with 16 home runs and 52 RBI in 86 games this season. He's been a pretty good mixed league option at fantasy baseball's shallowest position.
Aug 13 - 11:26 PM

Adrian Beltre departed Monday's game against the Diamondbacks with a left hamstring injury.

Beltre has already been on the disabled list on two occasions this season with an injury to the same hamstring. Whether he'll have to head back to the DL this time remains to be seen, but you'd have to think the odds are pretty good. Beltre will undergo an MRI on Tuesday and a decision on his roster status could be made then.
Aug 13 - 11:17 PM

Ronald Guzman hit his 13th home run of the year Monday in the Rangers' 5-3 win over the Diamondbacks.

It was a third-inning solo shot off Diamondbacks starter Zack Greinke. Guzman also hit a single in the fourth inning, finishing the night 2-for-4. The 23-year-old rookie has flashed good power lately, including a three-homer game Friday against the Yankees, and should carry meaningful AL-only fantasy value down the stretch.
