Tony Stewart’s team wins Daytona race awards

Tony Stewart’s team wins race awards in the Sprint Cup Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway.

Besides winning the race, Tony Stewart won the $5,000 USG Improving the Finish Award (started 42nd) and also won the $5,000 Mobil 1 Command Performance Driver Award. Crew Chief Steve Addington won the $5,500 Moog Chassis Parts Problem Solver of the Race award for improving lap times 0.047 seconds from first half of the race to the second half. Stewart moved up four spots to 5th in the 2012 Sprint Cup point standings after this event.

Tanner Berryhill misses Charlotte field

Tanner Berryhill’s qualifying speed was not good enough to make the field for the Nationwide Series History 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

He ran a lap of 163.255 mph in the No. 17 Chevrolet. It was 43rd quickest but not quick enough to make the field for the race.

Sprint Cup regular (No. 36) J.J. Yeley will miss the Nationwide Series History 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The No. 42 team is outside the top 30 in owner’s points and not guaranteed a start in this weekend’s NNS race. The qualifying speed of 176.916 mph, 36th fastest, was not good enough to make the cut for the event.

Of the teams required to make the field on speed, the lap of 182.070 mph in the No. 18 Toyota Camry was the fastest. The qualifying speed puts him ninth in the lineup for the Nationwide Series History 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Johnson has best 10-laps in 2nd Cup practice

Jimmie Johnson had the best 10-lap consecutive average speed in the second practice for the Sprint Cup Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

His average of 188.348 mph in the No. 48 Chevrolet SS was best of the 14 cars that ran 10 consecutive laps on the track for this session. No. 24 Jeff Gordon, No. 56 Martin Truex Jr., No. 14 Tony Stewart and No. 27 Paul Menard are the rest of the top five on this list.

Kasey Kahne led the second practice for the Sprint Cup Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

He ran a fast lap of 191.591 mph in the No. 5 Chevrolet SS. No. 78 Kurt Busch, No. 18 Kyle Busch, No. 88 Dale Earnhardt Jr. and No. 48 Jimmie Johnson rounded out the rest of the top 5 on the speed chart for this practice. Josh Wise in the No. 35 was the slowest of the 43 cars out on the track.
