This is his 21st pole in 251 NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) races and his first pole in 19 NXS races at Charlotte Motor Speedway (CMS). Cole Custer (second) posted his eighth top-10 start of 2018 and his second in four races at CMS. Brandon Jones (NASCAR XFINITY Series regular) held off a late-race, spirited charge from Riley Herbst to win the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards General Tire 150 Thursday night under the lights at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Jones, in the No. 12 Mobil 1-TRD Toyota, had a 10-length lead inside of five laps to go when Herbst chopped it down to nothing coming to the white flag. Herbst got to the back bumper of Jones on the last lap but couldn't find a way around the eventual winner. Jones was able to use a lapped car to put two lengths in between himself and Herbst at the checkered flag.

Kevin Harvick will lose his car chief Cheddar Smith and get docked 30 minutes of practice time on Saturday for failing to get through pre-qualification inspection.

Frankly, short of making him run on three tires while dragging an anchor, there is almost not that could keep Harvick from being one of this week’s favorites.

After posting the fastest speeds in ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards testing and practice, Todd Gilliland did the next best thing, winning the General Tire Pole for Thursday night's General Tire 150 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Gilliland, in the No 54 Frontline Enterprises Toyota, was fastest among a group of 30 cars in Timed Session Qualifying. He had 20 minutes to get the job done; he did it in one lap with top speed of 183.805 mph. He is one of only a handful of drivers in the field who have ever raced at Charlotte, and that was just once -- last weekend, finishing 10th in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
May 24 - 8:30 PM

Jamie McMurray posted the fastest lap in the first round of qualification with a 191.04 mph trip around the track. He slipped to 189.940 in round three, however, and will roll off the grid seventh.

This is only the third time McMurray has qualified in the top 10 in 2018. It would be easy to think this is a good omen, but he finished 26th at Phoenix International Raceway after starting eighth and 19th at Richmond from eighth. Continue to exercise caution.
May 24 - 8:17 PM

Jeffrey Earnhardt replaces Reed Sorenson in the No. 55 for the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway and he qualified 37th with a lap of 178.974 mph.

This is precisely where Earnhardt tends to qualify at Charlotte. Last year, he was able to advance to 30th in the Bank of America 500, but that was not enough to make him fantasy relevant.
