Jeremy Clements makes the most improvement in the Nationwide Series after this weekend’s race.

His 19th place finish in the Dollar General 300 was 8 places better than his last NNS finish. This earned the No. 51 Chevrolet driver a $2,600 check and the Featherlite "Most Improved Driver" award. Clements moved up one spot to 14th in the 2012 Nationwide Series point standings.

Matt Tifft won the Coors Light 21 means 21 Pole Award for the 25th Annual Sparks Energy 300 at Talladega Superspeedway with a lap of 52.857 seconds, 181.168 mph.

This is the #18 NOS Energy Drink Toyota Camry driver's first pole in six NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) races and second top-10 in 2016. Daniel Suarez (second) posted his ninth top-10 start of 2016 and his second in two races at Talladega. Austin Dillon (third) posted his fourth top-10 NXS start at Talladega. Erik Jones (fourth) was the fastest qualifying rookie.

Chase Elliott won the pole for Sunday’s Geico 500 at Talladega SuperSpeedway and will have a lot of help when the green flag waves. Dale Earnhardt Jr. qualified third with a speed of 192.293 mph directly behind Elliott. Jimmie Johnson qualified fifth (192.116) to start immediately behind Junior. Kasey Kahne also advanced to the final round and lines up 11th—also on the inside row.

Look for these three drivers to draft closely in the opening laps to try and get some separation from the competition. If an early "Big One" erupts, that could be the difference between winning and losing this week.

Chase Elliott will lead the field to green on Sunday for the Geico 500 at Talladega SuperSpeedway. He also had the pole for the first restrictor-plate, superspeedway race this year at Daytona International Speedway.

Elliott was running among the top 10 when he spun early in the 500. He never really got a chance to show his plate track ability, so he is an unknown this week at the Cup level.
Apr 30 - 2:07 PM

Austin Dillon posted the fastest single lap in the first round of qualification for the Geico 500 at Talladega SuperSpeedway. His top speed of 192.796 mph narrowly outpaced freshman Chase Elliott.

Dillon has a natural rivalry with Kyle Larson since they battled for Rookie of the Year in 2014, but both Dillon and Elliott are regularly competing at the front of the pack so they should be watched in competition with one another.
Apr 30 - 1:43 PM

Josh Wise failed to find enough speed to qualify for the Geico 500 at Talladega SuperSpeedway. His lap of 185.679 mph was not only the slowest among the Open Drivers, it was the slowest overall.

Wise also failed to make the Daytona 500 this spring, so restrictor-plate, superspeedway racing is not the team’s strongest track type.

Bluffton, South Carolina rookie Gus Dean had just enough momentum to inch ahead of Josh Williams when it counted most to win the action-packed General Tire 200 Friday afternoon at Talladega Superspeedway.

Dean, in the No. 98 GREE-Cab Installers Chevrolet, powered ahead of Williams down the backstretch just as the final caution came out for a multi-car crash behind the leaders. With weather approaching, accompanied by lightning, series officials put a period on the race two laps shy of the intended finish. The margin of victory – about two feet. When the race was over, both Dean and Williams circled the speedway side by side while series officials determined who was ahead at the exact moment the caution lights came on.

Joey Logano posted the fastest single lap in final practice for the Geico 500 at Talladega SuperSpeedway. His top speed was 196.290 mph.

Logano posted this fast lap as part of an early-session draft intended to give Ryan Blaney a faster speed in case they needed to fall back on time to make the show.

Qualifying has ended and Tom Hessert (#25 RelaxWraps.com-Cometic Toyota) is the winner of the Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell.

Hessert has had pretty good luck at Talladega with fast cars the last two years, winning in 2014 and leading until he ran out of gas in 2015. Another fast car today was Gus Dean's who finished first in practice. Dean, who hasn't raced with ARCA since Daytona, had the second fastest qualifying time. Bobby Gerhart, John Wes Townley and Matt Kurzejewski rounded out the top five in third, fourth and fifth, respectively.-ARCA Racing

Jamie McMurray posted the fastest single lap in the first practice session for the Geico 500 at Talladega SuperSpeedway. His top speed was 199.737 mph.

McMurray’s time was set in the draft and is representative of how fast the pack was going. McMurray tends to step up in high-profile races and has two wins on this track with the latest coming in 2013. His last two years have not been as productive though; he has only one top-25 in four starts.

Camping World Truck Series Driver Matt Tifft (#11 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra) tops the speed chart in the Final Practice session for the XFINITY Series Sparks Energy 300 at Talladega Superspeedway.

He ran a fast lap of 181.918 mph in the #18 NOS Energy Drink Toyota. #3 Ty Dillon, #33 Brandon Jones, #19 Daniel Suarez and #51 Jeremy Clements round out the top-five of the 33 cars out on the track. The #22 Ford driven by Joey Logano was the slowest in the final practice session.
Apr 29 - 2:58 PM

Camping World Truck Series driver John Wes Townley had the best 10-lap consecutive average speed in the first practice for the XFINITY Series Sparks Energy 300 at Talladega Superspeedway.

His average of 184.942 mph in the #05 Jive Communications Chevrolet Camaro was best of the nine cars that ran at least 10 consecutive laps on the track for this session. #42 Justin Marks (184.898 mph), #7 Justin Allgaier (184.639), #28 Dakoda Armstrong (184.411), #43 Jeb Burton (184.392), #48 Brennan Poole (184.364), #62 Brendan Gaughan (178.462), #20 Erik Jones (178.442) and #16 Ryan Reed (177.827) are the rest on this list.
