In the span of less than 10 laps, Jimmie Johnson went from running in the top five to sitting in the garage at New Hampshire. He lost air pressure in his left rear tire on lap six, pitted for fresh rubber, and then crashed six laps later. He finished 42nd in the Camping World RV Sales 301.

Johnson insisted that the team was not running low air pressure in that tire—at least not before the second incident—but officials from Goodyear had a different story to tell. They said the tires failed in a manner consistent with low inflation pressure. Either way this is the second consecutive week in which Johnson finished 42nd. Prior to this weekend, Johnson had back-to-back 40th-place finishes in 2004 at Watkins Glen and Michigan, but has not scored two 40-something results since.

Joey Logano clearly had the second-best car to his teammate Brad Keselowski when he was wrecked on lap 211 of 305 by one of the slowest cars on the track. As Logano attempted to pass Morgan Shepherd in the No. 33, the 72-year-old veteran lost control and slammed into the No. 22 sending him hard into the wall.

Before the incident Logano was well on his way to earning another top-five, which would have kept his perfect record of top-five finishes alive on short, flat tracks. He will remain one of the top choices when the series returns to New Hampshire, Richmond, Martinsville, and Phoenix for the fall races on those tracks.
