Renewals of long-time partnerships will have Front Row Motorsports poised to run its most competitive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season ever in 2013, with the team announcing new agreements with drivers David Ragan, David Gilliland and Josh Wise.
Martin Truex Jr. won the pole for Saturday night’s GoBowling.com 400 at Kansas Speedway with a lap of 190.921 mph. This is his eighth career pole with his most recent one coming at Texas Motor Speedway in 2012.
Kasey Kahne failed to advance out of the first round of qualification, Chase Elliott will start 13th barely outside the top 12, and neither of the more experienced drivers were part of the pole run either. Jimmie Johnson posted a lap of 188.719 mph to start 15th while Dale Earnhardt Jr. was 22nd-fastest with a 187.013 mph lap.
Chase Elliott barely failed to advance to the final round of qualification for Saturday night’s GoBowling.com 400. His lap of 189.003 mph was good enough for only 13th.
Kasey Kahne was one of the big names failing to advance to the second round of qualification for the GoBowling.com 400 at Kansas. With a speed of 187.149 mph, he will line up 27th Saturday night.
Kevin Harvick posted only the 26th fastest time in the first round of qualification for the GoBowling.com 400 at Kansas Speedway and failed to advance out of the first round of qualification. That is where he will line up Saturday night.
Matt Kenseth posted the quickest time in final practice for the GoBowling.com 400 with a speed of 181.496 mph set during his first 10 laps on track.
Jimmie Johnson posted the quickest 10-lap average in the first practice session for the GoBowling.com 400 At Kansas Speedway. His speed of 183.286 mph was set from his second through 11th laps on the track.
Martin Truex Jr. posted the fastest single lap in final practice for the GoBowling.com 400 at Kansas Speedway. His top speed was 187.696 mph.
The engine on Jimmie Johnson’s car apparently started running backwards about 15 minutes into the second practice session for the GoBowling.com 400 at Kansas Speedway. He attempted to shut the engine down, but the team has not yet reported if this created a catastrophic issue. The ECU seems to have malfunctioned.
Kurt Busch posted the fastest time in Friday’s first practice session for the GoBowling.com 400 at Kansas Speedway with a top speed of 185.893 mph.
In a 50-race career on similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks, Aric Almirola has earned seven top-10s. Three of these were earned at Kansas including eighth-place results in spring 2013 and 2014.
