Nelson Piquet, Jr. will graduate to the NASCAR Nationwide Series this season, running for the series championship in a Chevrolet Camaro fielded by Turner Scott Motorsports.

Piquet finished seventh in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship standings last season with Turner Scott, claiming a pair of wins at Michigan and Las Vegas, nine Top-5 and 15 Top-10 finishes in 22 events. He also made two Nationwide starts last year, highlighted by a win from the pole at Road America in late June.A spokesperson for Turner Scott Motorsports declined to confirm the move today, and there is no word on who might replace Piquet at the wheel of the team’s No. 30 Chevrolet Silverado.

Matt Crafton (No. 88 Great Lakes Flooring/Menards Toyota Tundra) finished seventh in Saturday's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) Careers for Veterans 200 at Michigan Int'l Speedway in Brooklyn, MI.

He started second in the lineup, led 23 laps and completed all of the 100 laps run. Crafton, who started in all 14 series races so far this season, moved up one spot to fifth in the 2016 NCWTS Championship standings after this event.

Riley Herbst (No. 19 NOS Energy Drink Toyota) finished third in Saturday night's NASCAR K&N Pro Series-West (KNPSW) Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts 150 at Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, Oregon.

He started fourth on the grid and completed all laps of the 150-lap race. Herbst, who competed in all 10 series races so far this season, is sixth in the 2016 NASCAR KNPSW point standings after this event.

Shawn Solomito (No. 75 Eastport Feeds Chevrolet) finished third in Saturday night's NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour (NWMT) Riverhead 200 at Riverhead (NY) Raceway.

He started on the pole, led 13 laps and completed all laps of the 200-lap race. Solomito, who has entered nine of the 12 series races so far this season, moved up one spot from 21st to 20th in the 2016 NWMT championship standings after this event.

Joey Logano had to overcome a late-race penalty in the Pure Michigan 400 when he left equipment outside his pit stall after coming in for a two-tire stop. Logano was forced to start at the back of the lead lap cars in 17th and barely squeaked into the top-10 with a 10th-place finish.

This kept a top-10 streak alive at Michigan International Speedway and extended it to eight consecutive. Logano will be highly regarded next spring at Auto Club Speedway and when the series rolls back to this course in June.

Denny Hamlin finished ninth in the Pure Michigan 400. This is his sixth consecutive top-10 this season—a streak that started with another ninth-place finish at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

During this streak none of Hamlin’s results have been a huge surprise with the exception of his Watkins Glen International victory. The next two races on the schedule will be held at two of his better courses. Darlington Raceway and Richmond International Raceway contribute to his streak.

On a day when his teammate Kyle Larson won to move the Chase bubble, Jamie McMurray had a strong points’ day. He started the Pure Michigan 400 eighth and finished in that same position.

McMurray remained 13th in the standings, but separated himself from Ryan Newman by nine additional points at Michigan International Speedway. Currently he has a 15-point cushion over the cutoff but needs his own victory in order to feel secure.
Aug 28 - 7:11 PM

Carl Edwards had a quiet Pure Michigan 400. He spent slightly more than 20 percent of the race in the top 10, but when the checkers waved over Michigan International Speedway, he scored a seventh-place finish, which was his third consecutive top-10 and his 18th such result on this track in 24 attempts.

Still, more was expected of Edwards on a track where top-fives were once common. Edwards needs to make a little more noise before he is placed-and-held, but he is doing a yeoman’s job.

For the first time since Texas Motor Speedway this spring, Jimmie Johnson earned back-to-back top-10s. He finished seventh last week at Bristol Motor Speedway and was sixth in the Pure Michigan 400.

In his most recent streak before this weekend, Johnson won an event on the two-mile Auto Club Speedway and had three consecutive top-10s culminating in the fourth-place result at Texas. Darlington Raceway’s Southern 500 will be the real test of whether this team has reversed their fortune.
Aug 28 - 6:59 PM

Kevin Harvick finished fifth in the Pure Michigan 400, which was his sixth straight top-10 on an oval track.

Harvick remains the best overall value in most salary cap games. His price tag can be restrictive, but when he fits a niche he is a no-brainer.
Aug 28 - 5:37 PM

Ryan Blaney posted top-10 speeds in all practices and qualification for the Pure Michigan 400. He backed up his seventh-place start with a fourth-place finish at Michigan International Speedway.

All weekend we have been predicting Blaney and Chase Elliott would challenge for a top-five. Elliott finished second to Blaney’s fourth and now both racers are poised to go on another top-10 run. Darlington Raceway next week could provide a momentary blip for the Young Guns.
Aug 28 - 5:33 PM

Brad Keselowski used some strategy to establish his No. 2 Team Penske Ford in the top five. Once there, he raced with the leaders for the final quarter of the Pure Michigan 400 and finished the third at Michigan International Speedway

Both Penske Racers were favorites this week, but Kez did not make a lot of noise early. He redeemed himself at the end, however, when the points mattered most.
