Ross Chastain (No. 4 Georgia Watermelon Association Chevrolet Camaro) finished fourth in Saturday night's NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) American Ethanol E15 250 at Iowa Speedway in Newton, IA.

He started 14th in the lineup and completed all of the 250 laps run. Chastain, who entered all 14 NXS races so far this season, moved up from 19th to 18th in the 2017 driver championship point standings after this event.

Jamie McMurray started the Toyota / Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway in second and like most drivers this week, he seesawed up and down the grid. He finished 10th.

It is important for McMurray to score strong results since there are now 10 drivers who have staked a claim to the playoffs with a win. McMurray needs to stay as high in the points as possible and consistent top-15s are doing the trick.

Ryan Blaney joined fellow sophomore driver Chase Elliott in earning his first career top-10 on a road course when he crossed under the checkers ninth in the Toyota / Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway.

In three starts, both Blaney and Elliott have gotten progressively stronger on this track type, but the driver of the No. 21 has lagged behind somewhat. He finished 23rd in last year’s Toyota / Save Mart 350 and 19th in the Cheez-it 355 at the Glen.

Chase Elliott earned his first top-10 finish of his career on a road course with an eighth at Sonoma Raceway in the Toyota / Save Mart 350.

Elliott had a difficult weekend. He showed speed in practice, but wrecked in Happy Hour to destroy his primary car. He posted the fastest lap in round one of qualification, but slipped to eighth in the final round. His seesaw weekend ultimately saw him finish exactly where he started, but he can build on that for his next attempt at Watkins Glen International this August.

Kurt Busch finished seventh in the Toyota / Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway after starting the day 17th.

That was the eighth consecutive time on a road course that he finished 12th or better. In pre-race coverage, we suggested he would be a decent value because of his consistency on this track type in spite of the fact that he can be a little uneven on other courses. He proved that prediction true.

Cayden Lapcevich fought hard at Autodrome Chaudiere with defending NASCAR Pinty's Series race winner Alex Labbe in the CRS Express 300 that ran 10 extra laps.

In a scene almost identical to last year's race at Chaudiere, the NASCAR Next driver, and Labbe were battling for the victory coming to the white flag. Lapcevich, who fought his way back from a mid-race run in with Adam Martin, brought his damaged No. 76 Fastline Dodge home 0.563 seconds ahead of Labbe, to take home his first win of the 2017 season and redeem himself from the second-place finish to Labbe at the quarter-mile bullring last year. The win also marked the defending Pinty's Series champion's first win since last season at Quebec's St. Eustache in September.
Jun 25 - 7:30 PM

For the first time this season, Dale Earnhardt Jr. was able to back up one top-10 finish with another when he crossed under the checkers sixth in the Toyota / Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway.

Earnhardt had an adventurous race. He spun early in the event when he braked too hard entering the hairpin. He was run into by Danica Patrick when that happened and did fairly significant cosmetic damage. He did not hurt any of the rolling parts, however, and climbed back through the pack.
Jun 25 - 7:28 PM

Kyle Busch finished fifth in the Toyota / Save Mart 350 at Sonoma to earn his fifth straight result of seventh or better on road courses.

Busch was a little off on tire strategy and had older rubber at the end than Brad Keselowski and Denny Hamlin, but he managed his race well. That helped add a few the volume of points his fantasy owners expected.
