Brendan Gaughan (No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet) has three previous NASCAR XFINITY Series starts at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, with his highest finish of 13th coming in 2015.

Huntington Beach, California’s Zane Smith has never raced at Lucas Oil Raceway LOR), but after a successful test last weekend, he's got a good feeling about the place. Must be because it reminds him of home.

"Lucas Oil reminds me a lot of my home track (Irwindale) out in California," said Smith. "It’s cool to go to a new place and feel at home. I like our chances this week. I think we’ve got a really good shot." Smith will be making his ninth ARCA Racing Series season start for Venturini Motorsports in Friday’s Sioux Chief PowerPex 200 at LOR, just outside of Indianapolis. Despite missing not competing at Daytona and Talladega -- he wasn't old enough yet -- Smith is still seventh in championship standings with three top-5 and six top-10 finishes.

Johnny Sauter (No. 21 Allegiant Airlines Chevrolet Silverado) finished 23rd in Wednesday night's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) Eldora Dirt Derby at Eldora Speedway in New Weston, OH.

He started 14th in the lineup and completed 143 laps of the 150-lap race. Sauter continues as the points leader in the 2017 NCWTS championship standings, leading Christopher Bell (finished ninth in the Eldora race) by seven points.

He started fourth in the lineup, led 22 laps and completed all laps of the 150-lap race. Bell is currently second in the 2017 NCWTS Championship point standings after this event, seven points behind leader Johnny Sauter (finished 23rd in the race).

Bret Holmes is well aware that several of his competitors tested at Lucas Oil Raceway for this Friday's Sioux Chief PowerPEX 200…but he's not too concerned, despite not being able to test.

In fact, the Munford, Ala. driver got in plenty last year at the famous short track in Indianapolis, finishing sixth in the ARCA race. And, he's bringing back his secret weapon for this year's race. Without the opportunity to test, Holmes is going off last year's notes.

Daniel Hemric (No. 2 Blue Gate Bank Chevrolet Camaro) will be making his first ever trip to the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway for this weekend's 250-mile race at the 2.5-mile speedway.

Rearview Mirror: New Hampshire ... In his first NXS start at the 'Magic Mile,' Hemric brought the No. 21 home in the 12th position. After starting fifth, he battled changing track and weather conditions as he and crew chief Danny Stockman continually adjusted on the handling of the car. Hemric ran his best laps of the race in the final stage and earned his 12th top-15 finish of the season.-Richard Childress Racing

John Hunter Nemechek (No. 8 Fire Alarm Services Inc. Chevrolet Silverado) finished fifth in Wednesday night's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) Eldora Dirt Derby at Eldora Speedway in New Weston, OH.

He started sixth in the lineup, led 11 laps and completed all laps of the 150-lap race. Nemechek, who competed in all 11 truck races so far this season, advanced two spots to sixth in the 2017 NCWTS Championship point standings after this event.

Before competing in his regular No. 33 GEICO Chevrolet SS in Sunday's Cup Series Brickyard 400, Ty Dillon will pilot the No. 3 Rheem/Johns Manville Chevrolet Camaro in the NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) Lilly Diabetes 250 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday.

Dillon returns the site of his NXS win this weekend when the series makes its annual trip to Indy. After starting from the third position in the 2014 race at the 2.5-mile rectangular track, Dillon took home the checkered flag. One of his best tracks, he has never finished outside of the top 10 in any of his four NXS races there. Contending for Rookie of the Year honors, Dillon will make his first Cup start in the Brickyard 400 this weekend.-Richard Childress Racing
