An engine turned sour derailed a promising run for Scott Riggs in the NextEra Energy Resources 250 at Daytona.

After starting 18th, Riggs quickly put the No. 92 Chevrolet Silverado in the top 10 in the running order, despite being in the slower-moving top lane for his entire 26-lap run. "That was about to get fun," said Riggs after a blown engine knocked him out of the race on lap 26. The No. 92 finished in 35th place.-Red Flag Communication

Kevin Harvick posted the quickest 10-lap average in Saturday morning’s practice session with a speed of 180.768 during his first 10 laps on the track.

Harvick also had the second-fastest time in that session which is a great balance of speed and durability. He has been solid on similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks and should be a great value. Harvick rolls off the grid second.

Kyle Larson posted the fastest single lap of practice Saturday morning for the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway with a speed of 181.671 mph.

For Larson, the burst of speed came a little too late. He qualified only 13th for the race, but that could indicate he is going to earn positive place differential points when he earns a top-10.

Spencer Boyd will drive a full schedule in the No. 76 Chevrolet Camaro for SS Green Light Racing in the NASCAR XFINITY Series in 2018.

Extending the relationship formed in 2017 with Bobby Dotter, Spencer will be back at SS Green Light Racing. Jason Miller will return as Crew Chief for the familiar looking Grunt Style Camaro, but with a new number, 76. The number was chosen for the United States of America's birthday in 1776. If the number on the side of the car is inspected closely, one can see a 17 embedded into the 76. Coming off a part-time effort in 2017, Boyd will run for 2018 Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors in the NASCAR XFINITY Series.-jayski.com

Michael Self was the meat in the middle of a five-wide sandwich on the final restart at Kansas Speedway and barely squeezed through as the leader off turn two. From there he held off a spirited charge from Ty Majeski to win the season-ending Kansas 150 Friday night, his career-first ARCA Racing Series.

In the end, Self (No. 28 Sinclair Oil Chevrolet) finished 10 lengths in front of Majeski (No. 99 Treeo's Ford) who finished a career-best second. General Tire pole winner Zane Smith (No. 41 ICON Vehicle Dynamics Toyota) finished third, Shane Lee fourth and Dalton Sargeant fifth. Sheldon Creed (No. 12 United Rentals Toyota) led more laps than anyone, 52 in all, and was leading on the final restart before he fell back suddenly. Creed eventually had a tire go down and limped back to pit road without finishing the last five laps (19th place).

Daniel Suarez and Erik Jones will line up side by side in the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway this week, with the fifth- and sixth-place starting spots respectively.

The two rookies have battled neck and neck all season long so it is fitting that they will start side by side. Both are capable of scoring top-10 finishes this week and that makes both of them great values.

Smith, in the No. 41 ICON Vehicle Dynamics Toyota, made just one lap in qualifying, but it was plenty good enough to earn the General Tire Pole Award for Friday night's Kansas 150.
