Mark Martin led the first Saturday practice for the Sprint Cup Subway Fresh Fit 500(k) at Phoenix International Raceway.

He ran a fast lap of 135.450 mph in the No. 55 Toyota and will start on the pole in the race. No. 18 Kyle Busch, No. 15 Clint Bowyer, No. 48 Jimmie Johnson and No. 29 Kevin Harvick rounded out the rest of the top five on the speed chart for this practice. Joe Nemechek in the No. 87 was the slowest.

Chase Pistone leads the first practice session for the Nationwide Series U.S. Cellular 250 at Iowa Speedway.

The lap of 132.142 mph in the No. 31 Chevrolet Camaro was best of the 34 cars out on the track for this session. No. 54 Sam Hornish Jr., No. 7 Regan Smith, No. 62 Brendan Gaughan and No. 42 Dylan Kwasniewski are the rest of the top five on the speed chart. Tanner Beryhill in the No. 17 Dodge was the slowest.

Marcos Ambrose has earned only two top-20 finishes on flat tracks this year. He was scored fifth at Martinsville and 18th at Richmond. His last Pocono performance ended in a 24th-place finish.

Since then Ambrose finished 27th at New Hampshire and 22nd at Indy, which suggests he has settled into a pattern. A test earlier this week at Watkins Glen should improve his performance slightly because of the extra seat time.

Tony Stewart will race chassis 14-707, which has a long career with its first start coming in 2012. It was also the car Stewart drove this June in Pocono when he finished 13th.

Stewart ran much stronger than that overall, however. He spent about 43 percent of the race in the top five and should have contended for at least a top-10. A late-race speeding penalty cost him track position late in the Pocono 400.

Joe Nemechek will make his 39th start this week at Pocono in the No. 66 Jay Robinson Toyota.

Nemechek has been making limited starts this season and turned the No. 66 car over to a variety of Young Guns and part time drivers. Pocono was the site of two of his 18 Cup top-fives, however, so he has fond memories of this place.

Danica Patrick will use chassis No. 10-828 this week. It was last raced at Auto Club this spring.

Patrick has been able to improve her performance in this chassis. She first raced it at Homestead at the end of the 2013 season and finished 20th. She was 21st in it at Las Vegas and then finally cracked the top 15 in the Auto Club 400. She finished 14th. Patrick should be expected to finish somewhere in the mid-teens this week.

If recent seasons are any indication, Denny Hamlin could struggle this week at Pocono. His latest three Pennsylvania 400 finishes were all 15th or worse. His most recent three Pocono 400s—the traditional name for the June race—ended in results of eighth or better.

Hamlin has been great on this track in the past, however, and he seems to have regained his flat track mojo with top-10s at New Hampshire and Indy. He should be considered a favorite to break that trend and score another top-10.

Carl Edwards slapped the wall fairly hard in the first qualification session and then ran through the infield grass on the way back to the pits. He will roll off the grid outside of the top 25 in 26th.

Unlike Almirola’s accident last week, it does not appear that there is enough damage to force Edwards into a backup although they will probably need to replace the front splitter. Players should continue to watch Rotorworld.com’s driver news for any updates.

With a speed of 183.438 mph, Kyle Larson earned his first career pole at Pocono.

Larson led the field to green at Richmond—another flat track—but qualification for that race was rained out. He had the fastest time in practice for that event and a fast car to finish 16th. Despite starting outside the top 12 in his last three flat track starts he nevertheless swept the top 10. Starting from the pole makes him a dark horse to win his first Cup race.

Nick Drake (No. 15 NAPA Auto Parts Toyota) is at the top of the speed chart in the final practice leading to the K&NPS combined East and West Series Autolite Iridium 150 at Iowa Speedway.

He put up a 129.496 mph lap in the final practice. No. 00 Cole Custer, No. 33 Brandon Jones, No. 41 Ben Rhodes and No. 1 Ross Chastain are the rest of the top five and No. 84 Rich DeLong III was the slowest of the 43 cars running in this final session.
Aug 1 - 4:32 PM

Timothy Peters (No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra) is fastest in Happy Hour for the Camping World Truck Series Pocono Mountains 150 at Pocono Raceway.

At 165.975 mph, he was the fastest of the 30 trucks out on the track for the final practice. No. 32 Kyle Larson, No. 88 Matt Crafton, No. 31 Ben Kennedy and No. 20 Justin Lofton are the rest of the top five on the speed chart. No. 0 Caleb Roark was the slowest.

Two and a half months after winning the pole at the .875-mile banked oval, Australian driver Brodie Kostecki posted the fastest lap in practice for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series return Friday.

Friday night's Autolite Iridium 150 is the second of two combination races this season at Iowa Speedway between the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and West. Kostecki had a lap of 24.195 seconds (130.192) to pace the first 1 1/2-hour session. Bill McAnally Racing teammates Nick Drake and Cole Custer were second and third overall after posting the top laps in the final one-hour practice. Drake, a rookie like Kostecki, had a lap of 24.325 (129.496). Custer, the defending race winner, had a lap of 24.354 (129.342).-K&N Pro Series
