Jeff Burton and the No. 31 Cheerios Chevrolet SS team finished off a solid afternoon with a top-10 finish at Phoenix International Raceway.

After qualifying 20th, the team received news early Sunday that crew chief Luke Lambert who returned to Charlotte to be with his wife as the couple is expecting their second child. With interim crew chief Ernie Cope calling the shots, Burton maintained a top-20 running position for the early part of the event before entering the top 10 on lap 75. Cope, worried about Burton having enough fuel to finish the race, directed him to save fuel. Burton managed to save enough fuel to complete the final (G-W-C) two laps and crossed the finish line in the 10th position, collecting his first top-10 of the 2013 Cup season.-Richard Childress Racing

Based on post-qualifying technical inspection at the July 19 Ansell ActivArmr 150 at Chicagoland Speedway, the Venturini Motorsports #15 team has been penalized for violating 2014 ARCA Rulebook Page 19, #4F.

It states in part "On oval tracks 1-1/4 miles in length and over all cars will be required to have installed a full one piece window on the right side of the car". Team owner Bill Venturini and driver John Wes Townley have been penalized with the loss of 15 championship points, and the team has been fined $1000 as a result of the violation.-ARCA Racing News

Steve Mathews (No. 15 Bill Mathews Motors Ford) has three poles and nine top 10s in 28 career NASCAR Canadian Tire Series starts.

All nine of his top 10s have come at oval tracks. Has started four of five races this year. Tied his career-best finish with a third-place effort at Chaudiere after he captured the pole and led a career-high 64 laps. JGL Racing announced on Monday that the NASCAR Nationwide Series team has signed Kevin Swindell to drive for the team in select races throughout the remainder of the 2014 season.

Swindell's first race with the organization will be this Saturday's Lilly Diabetes 250 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He will pilot the No. 93 Dodge with sponsorship from Curb Records and John Christner Trucking, Inc. He will be a teammate to J.J. Yeley in the No. 28 Dodge.

Jared Landers, a regular in the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model series will return to Eldora in the SS Green Light Racing No. 07 after finishing twelfth in the inaugural event last year.

"I learned a lot last year of what it takes to get the truck right," Landers explained. "There is a lot of beating and banging in the dirt late models I normally race, but last year these guys really used-up their trucks. The one thing I learned was a dirt racer does not have as big an advantage as we thought. I know what to expect now, and I’m excited to get to get back in the truck." Is sixth in the championship standings. In one previous start at Colorado National Speedway, finished 18th and retired from the race due to suspension issues (2010). Also ranks second in series history in laps led (2,754) and fifth in poles (10). Holds the NCATS record for most career oval victories with 16. Has won at eight different circle tracks, including Autodrome St-Eustache. All 10 of his career poles have been earned ovals. Has a streak of 55-consecutive races without at DNF. When Jamie Dick and his Viva Auto Group Chevrolet hit the track in Indianapolis, they will be sporting a new look.

The logo of Fronius USA will be featured on the lower quarter panels of the No. 55 Camaro. Viva Motorsports will be using the newly released Fronius AccuPocket welder for the 2014 season. The Viva Motorsports team will be rolling out car VM-010 for weekend’s race. This car was last used at Michigan International Speedway. VM-005 will serve as backup.
