The 2013 line-up for the No. 12 Penske Racing Ford is off to a strong start as it holds down the top spot in the Nationwide Series standings for the second consecutive week.

Hornish has five starts across three different series (three in Cup, one in IndyCar and one in Nationwide) at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He scored a top-10 here in last year’s Nationwide Series race.-Penske Racing

Martin Truex Jr. won the pole for Saturday night’s GoBowling.com 400 at Kansas Speedway with a lap of 190.921 mph. This is his eighth career pole with his most recent one coming at Texas Motor Speedway in 2012.

Truex’s best start on this track came last May when he rolled off the grid fourth. He ran well in that race to finish ninth, which is part of a current three-race, top-15 streak at Kansas. His latest pole from the similarly-configured Texas track also ended well; he finished sixth in the 2012 Samsung Mobile 500.

Kasey Kahne failed to advance out of the first round of qualification, Chase Elliott will start 13th barely outside the top 12, and neither of the more experienced drivers were part of the pole run either. Jimmie Johnson posted a lap of 188.719 mph to start 15th while Dale Earnhardt Jr. was 22nd-fastest with a 187.013 mph lap.

This organization has been a little hit or miss where qualification is concerned and they have not been entirely predictable in race trim. All of them should be good values, however, since they will have positive place-differential points.

Chase Elliott barely failed to advance to the final round of qualification for Saturday night’s GoBowling.com 400. His lap of 189.003 mph was good enough for only 13th.

There is not much of a reason to panic where the rookie is concerned because he has so little experience on this track. He is close enough to the top 10 that a slight adjustment in race trim will earn positive points and make him a good value.
May 6 - 7:29 PM

Kasey Kahne was one of the big names failing to advance to the second round of qualification for the GoBowling.com 400 at Kansas. With a speed of 187.149 mph, he will line up 27th Saturday night.

This actually could improve his value somewhat in games that offer place-differential points. Kahne should finish somewhere in the mid-teens this week, which will earn 10 or more points for advancement.
May 6 - 7:13 PM

Kevin Harvick posted only the 26th fastest time in the first round of qualification for the GoBowling.com 400 at Kansas Speedway and failed to advance out of the first round of qualification. That is where he will line up Saturday night.

Harvick has been running well at Kansas, but most of his strong finishes came after strong starts. He has a current streak of 11 top-16 results, but that got kicked off in fall 2010 when he advanced from 24th to third.
May 6 - 7:10 PM

Matt Kenseth posted the quickest time in final practice for the GoBowling.com 400 with a speed of 181.496 mph set during his first 10 laps on track.

Kenseth was leading at Kansas last fall late in the going, but he did not have the best long-run car. That allowed Joey Logano to get to his back bumper, the No. 20 was spun out of the lead, and the die was cast for both racers. Kenseth does not want a repeat of the Hollywood Casino 400.
May 6 - 3:26 PM

Jimmie Johnson posted the quickest 10-lap average in the first practice session for the GoBowling.com 400 At Kansas Speedway. His speed of 183.286 mph was set from his second through 11th laps on the track.

Johnson has a scare in the final practice session when a malfunctioning ECU caused his engine to spin backwards. The team does not expect to replace the engine, however, and Johnson should still be considered one of this week’s favorites.
May 6 - 3:22 PM

Martin Truex Jr. posted the fastest single lap in final practice for the GoBowling.com 400 at Kansas Speedway. His top speed was 187.696 mph.

Truex enters the weekend with a seven-race streak of top-15s on similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks. Only one of these ended in a top-five, but he was one of the dominant points’ earners in the Duck Commander 500 at Texas and could be a great value this week.
May 6 - 3:04 PM

The engine on Jimmie Johnson’s car apparently started running backwards about 15 minutes into the second practice session for the GoBowling.com 400 at Kansas Speedway. He attempted to shut the engine down, but the team has not yet reported if this created a catastrophic issue. The ECU seems to have malfunctioned.

Johnson has experienced several strange occurrences such as his steering wheel coming off in his hands at Phoenix. If Johnson replaces his engine, he will be forced to roll off from the back of the grid regardless of where he qualifies.
May 6 - 1:52 PM

Kurt Busch posted the fastest time in Friday’s first practice session for the GoBowling.com 400 at Kansas Speedway with a top speed of 185.893 mph.

Busch has the longest string of consecutive top-10s on similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks and there is no reason to believe this week will snap that streak. If he fits an appropriate slot on a fantasy player’s roster, he is an easy choice this week.
May 6 - 12:32 PM

In a 50-race career on similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks, Aric Almirola has earned seven top-10s. Three of these were earned at Kansas including eighth-place results in spring 2013 and 2014.

In 2013, Almirola swept the top 10 on this track type with another 10th in the fall. Last year, he earned a pair of 10th-place results at Chicagoland Speedway and Charlotte Motor Speedway, which has made this a track type on which he should be watched closely.
