Roush Fenway Racing (RFR) announced that Fastenal will team with two-time NASCAR champion Ricky Stenhouse Jr., serving as the anchor sponsor on the No. 17 Ford in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) for a multi-year agreement beginning next season.

Fastenal first joined with RFR in 2010 and has served as a primary partner for multiple Roush Fenway teams and drivers in both the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) and NSCS. Fastenal is currently in its third season as a primary partner on the No. 99 NSCS entry driven by Carl Edwards (who will be leaving RFR at the end of 2014), and was the primary partner on the No. 60 NNS team that captured the owner’s championship in 2011. Brian Vickers spent approximately 100 laps in the top 10 on Sunday, but he was shuffled back in the pack on the final restart and finished only 19th.

Vickers recorded the ninth-best avg. running position after starting fifth. This team has had some difficulty in putting complete races together and can be difficult to handicap on every track type.

Clint Bowyer took advantage of a timely caution on lap 98 to lead a handful of laps in the Brickyard 400. He was unable to hang onto his track position, however, and ultimately slipped to 16th in the final rundown.

Bowyer was pitting just as Trevor Bayne slapped the wall, cut a tire, and crashed. He held the lead for three laps, but was mostly a non-factor for the win with an average running position of 12th. He spent approximately 75 percent of the race in the top 15, however, and was a good value in games where he was priced correctly.

Race day started with an official announcement that Carl Edwards would not return to Roush-Fenway Racing in 2015. It ended with that driver 15th in the standings as confirmation of how much this former powerhouse organization is struggling.

Roush-Fenway Racing has never been one of the top flat track teams but they have made progress in recent years. And while Edwards’ best flat track finish this year was an eighth at Phoenix, this result is the fifth time in six races he finished in the top 15.

Jimmie Johnson failed to keep a two-race, top-five streak at Indy alive on Sunday after finishing 14th in the Brickyard 400.

For another driver a finish in the top 15 might seem like an accomplishment, but so much more is expected from Johnson—especially since he finished first and second in his last two efforts on this track. The No. 48 team is experimenting with strategies and setups for the Chase and cannot be relied on for consistent top-five finishes until further notice.
