Irwin Vences has chosen the right time in the 2014 NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series Season to go on a hot streak.

The driver of the No. 46 Axtel/HP/M Racing Toyota got around Rafael Martínez on Lap 241 of the Potosina 200 from the Autódromo Potosino and held on for his third career victory, second of 2014. His first victory of the season came in the final event of the regular season and gave the Cuernavaca, Mexico, native a berth in the Desafio, the five-race playoff to decide the championship. Martínez, looking for his 20th career win and first of the season, looked poised to earn a victory in front of a sympathetic crowd. With nine laps left, Vences was able to get on the inside of the veteran and hold on for the win.

For the second time this season, Kyle Larson came up one position short of winning his first Sprint Cup race. He finished second in the Sylvania 300 to Joey Logano and earned his seventh career top-five. His other runner-up finish was earned at Auto Club this March.

Fantasy owners know it is a matter of when, not if he will win and this is the closest he has come in his career. While he has scored back-to-back top-10s on four previous occasions, this is the first time in his career that he posted consecutive top-fives.

Joey Logano won the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway to clinch a spot in the second round of the Chase. With 55 laps remaining, he restarted 16th on fresh tires and methodically carved his way to the lead.

Logano and teammate Brad Keselowski are the only drivers locked into the second round of the Chase and this could make them risky propositions at Dover next week. However, gambles by the No. 2 car paid off for fantasy owners in a major way at New Hampshire, so there is a lot to be said for momentum.

J.R. Fitzpatrick did everything he could. L.P. Dumoulin did what he needed. The result was Dumoulin was crowned the champion of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 Saturday, while Fitzpatrick walked away with the winner's trophy for the Pinty's 250 at Kawartha Speedway.

Final margin: Three points. Dumoulin qualified 15th and finished ninth in the Pinty's 250. It was enough for him to edge Fitzpatrick for the title after the latter won the pole award and led the most laps en route to his third victory of the season. Fitzpatrick led three times for 171 laps, including the final 78. A late caution gave Scott Steckly one more shot with seven to go, but Fitzpatrick pulled away to win by .229 seconds. It was all for naught, though, as a 100-lap green flag run in the middle of the race left just 10 cars on the lead lap and all but ensured Dumoulin the title. He entered the race with a 16-point lead and needed to only finish 11th or better to claim the championship.
