While NASCAR took the weekend off, Dave Blaney took to the track at the season opening sprint car race at Port Royal Speedway (PA).

For Blaney at the wheel of his No. 10, a car specially designed and built by himself, it was as second career opening day Port victory, his last coming on March 17, 1984. The 25-lap sprint car main, proved to be a marathon, starting off with a red flag before the first lap could be completed. With over three laps to go, Blaney blasted the middle through the third and fourth turns when the leader's car jumped out of gear, the pair of drivers then watched as Blaney completed a two car pass for the lead and win. Blaney's margin of victory was 2.822 seconds.-140 BUZZ

Dale Earnhardt Jr. posted the fastest single lap in the first practice session for pole qualification. His top speed of 194.116 mph edged Joey Logano’s 193.853.

Earnhardt is the Pied Piper of plate racing and this adds to his mystique. He will be on most fantasy rosters.

Brian Vickers ran the second-most laps in the first practice session for the Sprint Unlimited. He logged 28 circuits around the track, which was two fewer than Joey Logano.

Vickers is returning to the seat of a NASCAR Cup car after a long medical hiatus and needs the seat time. He was also quick with the fifth-best 10-lap average of 196.33 mph and was one of only four drivers (along with Logano, Kyle Larson, and Kasey Kahne) to run at least 15 consecutive laps.
Feb 12 - 6:10 PM

Kasey Kahne logged the quickest 10-lap average speed of 196.74 mph and the fastest 15-lap average of 196.48 in the first practice session for the Sprint Unlimited at Daytona International Speedway.

Along with the second fastest top speed, he seems to have a well-balanced car. Now all he needs is to stay out of trouble in Saturday’s exhibition race.
Feb 12 - 6:06 PM

Denny Hamlin posted the fastest five-lap average speed in the first practice session for the Sprint Unlimited with a speed of 197.49 mph.

He narrowly edged Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s 197.44 and should be considered a strong contender for Saturday’s exhibition race.
Feb 12 - 6:01 PM

Kyle Larson (199.344 mph) and Kasey Kahne (199.159) topped the leaderboard in terms of fastest laps run in the first practice session for the Sprint Unlimited.

Both drivers ran more than 24 laps, which should give them a great feel for a fast draft.
Feb 12 - 5:58 PM

Jimmie Johnson and Brad Keselowski will lead the field to green for Saturday’s Sprint Unlimited. The starting lineup of 25 cars was determined by a random draw.

Fantasy players should note that starting position is not important on restrictor-plate, superspeedways unless—and this is occasionally a Big UNLESS—an accident happens in the opening laps. Johnson and Keselowski might have a slightly better chance of avoiding such an incident.
