Coming off a pair of impressive top-five finishes, Kurt Busch is in position to snap an eight-year jinx in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race – the STP Gas Booster 500 at Martinsville Speedway.

The last time he scored three consecutive top-five finishes was at the opening three races of the 2005 season. He admits the Martinsville flat track has not been a kind place for him. Yes, he did score his second of 24 career wins at the .526-mile oval in October 2002. But since that victory he has only managed to produce two top-10 finishes, with the last being a sixth-place result nearly eight years ago in October 2005. His last top-five (5th) at Martinsville was October 2004.-Furniture Row Racing

Roush Fenway Racing announces that legendary NASCAR driver Mark Martin is returning to the race team where he excelled behind the wheel for almost 20 years - this time as the team’s driver development coach.

Martin was the first driver hired by team owner Jack Roush when he founded his NASCAR operation in 1988. The two went on to become one of the most successful duos in sports history, accumulating 83 NASCAR wins, four NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship runner-up finishes, and building Roush Fenway into the winningest team in NASCAR history. Martin piloted Roush Fenway’s flagship No. 6 Ford from 1988 until 2006. During that time he accumulated 35 NSCS victories. At the end of his tenure at Roush Fenway he held a record five prestigious IROC (International Race of Champions) Championships and a then record 47 NASCAR Nationwide Series wins. For his career Martin posted 96 career NASCAR victories.-Roush Fenway Racing

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has scored only one top-10 in six flat track races this year. He finished ninth in the Camping World RV Sales 301 at New Hampshire.

Stenhouse may still be of value to fantasy players, however, because he finished 15th at Pocono this June. If he can back that up, he will be worth the modest amount he commands in most salary cap games.
Jul 31 - 2:43 PM

Jamie McMurray has finished between 10th and 17th in his last five Pocono attempts, which makes him a reliable mid-cap pick in fantasy games where he is priced appropriately.

Reliability can be more important than the potential to score top-five finishes. McMurray should only be used if he fits well into a player’s salary cap budget. There is very little rational to rearrange a roster to accommodate him.

After practicing his No. 9 NAPA Chevrolet in Iowa on Friday, he boarded a plane, flew home, graduated on Saturday morning, and flew back to Iowa in time to race the NAPA Chevy. He finished fourth on May 18 with no prior experience in a Nationwide car at the 7/8-mile speedway. Despite the limited seat time at Iowa, the 18-year-old does know how to find victory lane there, as he won Iowa’s K&N Pro Series East race on May 19, 2012. Smith will join Trevor Bayne, Ty Dillon and Brian Scott as NNS regulars vying for $100,000 in Nationwide Insurance’s final round of Dash 4 Cash this weekend at Iowa Speedway.
