Travis Kvapil and the No. 93 Burger King / Dr. Pepper Toyota team finished 39th at Martinsville Speedway after sustaining damage in an 11-car crash midway through the race.

With a fast car, the team recorded their best qualifying effort of the season (25th) and led a lap early in the 500-lap event. Said Kvapil: "It's very unfortunate that we were involved in the lap 181 accident, but I feel like our team is getting stronger every week. I'm excited to get to Texas Motor Speedway-we're going to have a special Dr. Pepper paint scheme and a lot of special guests at the track."-A2B Strategies LLC

Jimmie Johnson tagged the wall in the first segment of the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond Raceway, but overcame that setback to finish sixth.

It wasn’t looking good for a driver that we predicted would finish eighth in this week’s Cheat Sheets. This is now his second consecutive top-10 finish; the last time he accomplished that feat was early in the 2017 playoffs. Notably, Talladega SuperSpeedway derailed him then and it could do so again this year.

Kevin Harvick finished fifth in the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond Raceway after starting the afternoon 10th.

For much of the race, it appeared 10th would be the operative number. Harvick was running in that position at the end of both stages of the race. For the first time this year, it appeared he would be upstaged significantly by his teammates, but a late-race surge of determination elevated him into the top five for the sixth time in the last eight starts.

Salvador de Alba Jr. (Sidral Aga Racing No. 48 Toyota) won the pole for the NASCAR PEAK Mexico Series (NPMS) Canel's Grand Prix at the Super Ovalo Potosino on Saturday afternoon in addition to the two previous practices.

This was his second consecutive pole position; the first was in the season opener in Monterrey, Mexico. The top-10 in the lineup for Sunday's race will be Rubén Rovelo (second), Rubén García Jr. (third), Elliot Van Rankin (fourth), Héctor Aguirre (fifth), Homero Richards (sixth), Xavi Razo (seventh), José Luis Ramírez (eighth), Enrique Baca (ninth) and Michel Jourdain (10th).-NPMS

Joey Logano finished fourth in the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond Raceway after winning both early segments of the race.

Logano had a long run car during the first half of the race, but he was not able to keep up with the changing track conditions in the next 100 laps. The team was finally able to get the car running right in the final quarter of the event, salvaging a top-five. This is his eighth top-10 in nine races this year.

Denny Hamlin finished third in the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond Raceway, just as this week’s Cheat Sheets predicted.

Hamlin was the second driver in the top three accurately predicted. Kyle Busch won after being handicapped first. Hamlin’s day was not exactly smooth. He fell back into the high side of the top 10 for a while as the team played an alternate strategy. When cautions changed the complexion of the race’s end, however, he held his own mano-a-mano. He continues to be a great value on short flat tracks.

For the eighth time in his career, Chase Elliott has finished second in a Monster Energy Cup Series race. This time he was runner-up to Kyle Busch in the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond Raceway.

Elliott did not have a second-place car for most of the race, even though he started on the outside of the front row. Driving with a lot of determination, he managed to get several spots during the last two short, green flag runs. He needed this in order to replace some of the lost points from two penalties incurred earlier in the season.

Rookie Chandler Smith is taking the ARCA Racing Series by storm. The 15-year-old Talking Rock, Ga. driver, in his second career start, just became the youngest ARCA polesitter in Salem Speedway history, winning the General Tire Pole Award Saturday afternoon with a one-lap time of 16.844 seconds, an average speed of 118.618 mph.

Smith's mark, the second-fastest lap ever recorded in an ARCA car at Salem, was just off Gary Bradberry's track record of 16.785 set back in 1994. Smith, in the No. 20 Smith General Contracting Toyota, also won the General Tire Pole in his first ARCA attempt two weeks ago at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville with a new track record. Smith finished fifth in the race at Nashville and believes he's got the car to win tomorrow.
