In three previous Nationwide Series appearances at Richmond International Raceway, Austin Dillon has earned two top-10 finishes and led 14 laps at the 0.75-mile track.

In his most recent appearance at the track (September 2012), he started second and led 14 laps despite struggling with a tight-handling condition in the center of the corners, ultimately finishing sixth. He made his Nationwide Series debut at Richmond in September 2008. Dillon ranks third in the 2013 Nationwide Series driver championship point standings, trailing current leader Sam Hornish, Jr. by eight points.-Richard Childress Racing

Denny Hamlin is widely considered one of the top choices every time the Cup series rolls onto a short, flat track, but he has no top-15s in his last four starts on them.

Hamlin never fully returned from his injury last year with a pair of 21st-place finishes at New Hampshire in the summer and Richmond in the fall. He had a slight bump in the second New Hampshire race, but slipped to 28th at Phoenix in the penultimate event last year. In three starts in 2014, his best efforts were a pair of 19ths at Phoenix and Martinsville. This is a good week to take a wait-and-see approach to Hamlin.

Landon Cassill failed to qualify for the Profit 500k at Phoenix, but he rebounded nicely with mid-20s results in the next two short, flat track races at Martinsville and Richmond.

Cassill has scored 30-something results in his last seven unrestricted speedway races, which should put him under most fantasy players’ radar screens. That means if he can repeat his Virginia success in New Hampshire, he could catch fantasy opponents unaware. Treat him as one of this week’s top dark horse picks.
Jul 10 - 7:31 PM

Greg Biffle has one of the most consistent records on short, flat tracks in past 12 months. Six of his last eight attempts on this course type ended in results of 12th to 18th.

With an average finish of 12.75 on this track type, Biffle might not make his way onto may fantasy rosters but there is some reason to be hopeful. His single top-five during this span came in last year’s Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire, so he should be watched in practice and qualification.
Jul 10 - 7:28 PM

Joey Logano is the only driver who has swept the top five on the short, flat tracks of Phoenix, Martinsville, and Richmond this year.

Logano got off to a strong start with fourth-place finishes at Phoenix in the Profit 500k and Martinsville in the STP 500. He won the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond, so fantasy players will want to give him another start this week and expect a solid top-five finish.
Jul 10 - 5:49 PM

In three starts on short, flat tracks, Alex Bowman has gotten progressively better with a 41st at Phoenix, a 36th at Martinsville, and a 28th at Richmond.

This is precisely how rookies should progress and it puts Bowman on the fantasy radar screen. If he finishes in the top 25 this week he could be fantasy relevant when the series returns to New Hampshire in September for the next races on this track type.
Jul 10 - 5:48 PM

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. got off to a strong start on short, flat tracks this year with an 18th at Phoenix, but his latest two efforts at Martinsville and Richmond have both been outside the top 35.

Stenhouse will be difficult to handicap this week because of inconsistent performances on this track type last year as well as in 2014. He scored a 10th at Richmond and a 12th at Phoenix in 2013, but had several results outside the top 20 that will minimize his appeal.
Jul 10 - 5:46 PM

Tony Stewart finished second and first in New Hampshire’s two races of 2011 and hopes to have some of that same strength this year.

Remarkably, that was the second time he finished first and second at New Hampshire during a single season, having performed the feat already in 2005. He also finished first and second in back-to-back races at the end of 1999 and beginning of 2000. Unfortunately, he finished 26th in this race last year before missing the fall event due to injury, so he should be regarded only as a driver to watch.
Jul 10 - 4:44 PM

In three short, flat track races this season, David Gilliland has finished in the 20s at Phoenix, Martinsville, and Richmond.

His consistency should make him a good mid-range pick and his recent bad luck at Daytona could make other fantasy owners overlook him. In addition to three 20-something results on short, flat tracks this year, Gilliland also finished in the low 20s at Martinsville and Phoenix last fall.
Jul 10 - 4:42 PM

Matt Kenseth was one of five drivers who swept the top 10 at New Hampshire last year with a ninth in the summer and a victory in the fall.

Kenseth had much more momentum when he came to New Hampshire for last year’s Camping World RV Sales 301 and could manage to finish only ninth. This year, it is much more likely he will finish in the low- to mid-teens like he did in both 2012 events.

Woody Pitkat (No. 88 Buzz Chew Chevrolet/Elbow East Chevrolet) has a pole and 38 top 10s in 83 career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour starts.

Best career finish is second, recorded three times: August 2011 Loudon, 2012 Stafford Fall Final and 2014 Thompson Icebreaker. Ranks fifth in points this year with top 10s in the first four races and a best result of second in the Thompson opener. Has eight top 10s, an average finish of 13.5 and a best result of second in 14 career New Hampshire Motor Speedway races.-NWMT
Jul 10 - 4:36 PM

Sprint Cup regular (No. 31 Chevrolet SS) Ryan Newman has four wins, four poles and eight top fives in 14 career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour starts.

The No. 7 Menards/Wix Filters Chevrolet modified driver has a pair of wins (June & Sept. 2010), all four of those poles, five top fives and an average finish of 13th in 10 career New Hampshire Motor Speedway NWMT starts. Has three wins, seven poles and 15 top 10s in 24 career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts at NHMS, and set the series’ track qualifying record last September.-NWMT
