The Coke Zero 400 will mark Ryan Newman’s 24th career Sprint Cup start at Daytona International Speedway.

He has one win (February 2008), three poles, four top-five finishes and five top-10s in 23 career Sprint Cup starts at Daytona. He has led 101 laps, has an average start of 20.1 and an average finish of 20.3. Newman has savored the sweet taste of victory on three separate occasions in three different divisions; ARCA Series in 2001, the season-opening IROC race at Daytona in February 2004 and in 2008, when Newman scored the biggest victory of his racing career by winning the 50th Daytona 500.-True Speed Communication

Casey Mears is ready to put his last two Michigan International Speedway races behind him. He experienced an overheating problem last August to finish 42nd and crash damage this June cost him 11 laps. He crossed under the checkers 32nd in the FireKeepers Casino 400.

The last time Mears had an incident free race at Michigan, he finished 13th in the June 2015 Quicken Loans 400. The previous fall, he was 17th in the Pure Michigan 400 so he is a good fantasy value—but only if he can stay out of trouble.

Cole Whitt has made eight previous starts on the two-mile tracks and he has finished better than he started every time. This spring, he started 36th at both Auto Club Speedway and Michigan International Speedway before finishing 26th and 27th respectively.

Last August, Whitt moved up to 27th from a 35th-place qualification effort in the 2015 edition of the Pure Michigan 400. He has also been running at the end of all eight races and on the lead lap in four. Whitt is liable to fly under the radar this week, which makes him even more valuable.

Thirty-something defines Jeffrey Earnhardt’s two-mile track record. In two previous starts at Auto Club Speedway and Michigan International Speedway, he qualified 39th and 38th respectively before finishing 34th and 37th. And of course, he did this in the No. 32 GO FAS Racing ride.

Winning one’s league is not always about successfully predicting winners. A fantasy player needs to know about everyone in the field and determine how their success or failure in a race will impact the big picture.

Kyle Larson finished second in the 2014 Auto Club 400, which was his first NASCAR Cup attempt on a two-mile track. He was eighth in his first Michigan International Speedway race that June. Fast forward to this June’s FireKeepers Casino 400 and he has bracketed his two-mile record with top-fives after finishing third.

In between, Larson had five results outside the top 10 on this track type with only one top-15. He should be considered a provisional good value, but fantasy owners do not want to make a commitment until practice and qualification for the Pure Michigan 400 is in the books.
Aug 25 - 2:39 PM

Aric Almirola has finished all the laps in four of the past five two-mile track races. His best result in those events was a 14th last August in the Pure Michigan 400 when he advanced all the way from 30th.

Almirola might be a very tempting dark horse this week, but he lacks momentum from the 2016 season. Tread lightly, but watch him in practice and qualification before making a final fantasy decision.
Aug 25 - 11:48 AM

Michael Annett has finished better than he started in the past four races on two-mile tracks. His best effort in that span of events was a 28th earned this June at Michigan International Speedway.

Annett is not the first driver who comes to mind on unrestricted, intermediate speedways, but he has finished on the lead lap in both two-mile track races this year. He missed Bristol because of flu-like symptoms, but should be a good value in the Pure Michigan 400 if he is healthy.
Aug 25 - 11:43 AM

Reed Sorenson failed to qualify for two races on two-mile tracks in 2015 making attempts for Robby Benton and Jay Robinson. This June, he started last in the FireKeepers Casino 400 and advanced nine positions to finish 31st.

Sorenson will be one of the cheapest options in salary cap games and this team does not always attempt to go the full distance. If June’s race is an indication, Sorenson could be a decent value for players who want guaranteed positive points from their bargain basement driver.

Cole Rouse (No. 6 Sunrise Ford/Eibach Springs/Lucas Oil Ford) heads into Roseburg, Oregon seventh in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West standings with three top fives and eight top 10s.

In his Tucson and Colorado debuts (two similar .375-mile ovals), he finished fourth and ninth, respectively.
Aug 24 - 8:49 PM

Gracin Raz (No. 27 Montana Tech Ford) heads into Roseburg, Oregon ranked fourth in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West standings with six top fives and seven top 10s.

At the two previous .375-mile ovals (Tucson (Ariz.) Speedway and Colorado National Speedway) this season, he finished 16th and third, respectively.
Aug 24 - 8:47 PM

Timmy Solomito (No. 16 Diversified Metals/R.B. Enterprises Ford) sits fourth in the current NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour standings with three wins and four top fives in 11 races.

Won the June race at New York's Riverhead Raceway for his second career win, and has also won at Thompson and Monadnock this season. Has one win and one pole in six career WMT races at Riverhead.
Aug 24 - 8:46 PM

Cole Custer’s sixth-place run at Bristol last week was his third straight NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) top-10 finish, matching his total for the first 10 races of the season.

This weekend’s race will be the No. 00 Haas Automation Chevrolet Silverado driver’s first on a 2-mile speedway. Over the past three races, Custer has earned an average finish of 5.7. The strong showing over the past three events has seen Custer jump to ninth in points and within nine points of the inaugural Chase for the NCWTS. He has three races to make up that deficit.-JR Motorsports
