When the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series heads to Eldora Speedway on July 24, Kyle Larson will be one of just a few drivers in the field with experience at the 0.5-mile dirt oval.

Larson is one of only two drivers to sweep the USAC Four Crown Nationals at Eldora Speedway. In addition to sweeping the USAC Midget, Silver Crown and Sprint Car features at Eldora in 2011, Larson also won in the USAC Midgets in 2012. Larson and the No. 30 Clorox team will utilize chassis TSM-016 at Eldora. Just when you thought you were going to hand off another pole award to rookie sensation Chase Briscoe, here comes Kyle Weatherman.

Weatherman (#10 St. Charles Glass-Fast Track Ford) bumped Briscoe from the top-spot toward the back half of qualifying, winning the Menards Pole presented by Ansell Friday afternoon at Pocono Raceway with a time of 53.427 seconds (168.454 mph). It was quite a turnaround for Weatherman who crashed in practice in the spring race here last year, then crashed on the first lap of the second event in 2015. t was Weatherman's fourth career Menards Pole Award but first-ever on a superspeedway.

Denny Hamlin had the second-fastest single lap in the Friday’s first practice session at Pocono Raceway. He posted a lap of 177.406 mph, which was 0.009 seconds slower than the mark set by Paul Menard.

Given his overall record on flat tracks, Hamlin is a more reliable pick. Starting position is not as critical on this track as others that are not as prone to strategy calls, but a good pit stall is always nice.

Paul Menard posted the fastest single lap in the first practice session for the Pennsylvania 400 at Pocono Raceway. His fastest lap was 177.438 mph.

Menard logged only seven laps, which means he was working primarily on race trim. He had a solid run at Indianapolis Motor Speedway last week, however, and should be watched closely in Saturday’s practice to see how he performs on long runs.

During his weekly podcast earlier this week, Dale Earnhardt Jr. gave his fans an update on his health. "This process is going to take a little bit longer," he said—strongly suggesting he will not return to the cockpit next week. No announcement has been made about his replacement.

Since fantasy owners do not know who will be behind the wheel, it is impossible to determine the impact of Earnhardt’s vacancy. Junior was steadily declining in cap value before he announced his injury, however, so the current driver will probably be a better choice by comparison.

Kevin Harvick’s crew chief Rodney Childers has been suspended for one race as the result of a lug nut violation at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He will be replaced by Dax Gerringer.

The depth of this team is such that this would normally not impact them at all. However, Harvick has been so critical of his team recently that one has to wonder exactly how this will impact the dynamic. Childers may be more accustomed to dealing with the fieriness of Harvick.
