Roush-Fenway Racing showed a lot of promise during the weekend and they capped it off with a 10th-place finish for Trevor Bayne.

Bayne and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. both showed a lot of speed in preliminaries and both spun on lap 137. Bayne sustained only minimal damage and was able to continue. Stenhouse ended his day in the garage in 31st.

For only the second time in his career, Matt DiBenedetto earned a top-10 finish with his ninth in the 2017 Daytona 500.

DiBenedetto’s first top-10 came last spring in the No. 83 BK Racing entry at Bristol Motor Speedway. In fact, these are his only top-15s in 70 career attempts, but he is racing with a new team that excels in plate races. Keep an eye on him in the next several races, but fantasy owners will want to wait until the series hits the short tracks before they consider starting him.

Michael Waltrip did not win in his final race, but he ended his career in style with an eighth-place finish in the Daytona 500.

This was the 133rd top-10 of his career in 784 starts. Most of Waltrip’s success came on restrictor-plate, superspeedways or the faster unrestricted, intermediate tracks. He has been an uneven value on plate tracks since retiring from fulltime racing, but it was great to see him finish on such a high note.

Kasey Kahne finished seventh in the Daytona 500 after starting the race 26th.

The 59th edition of this race was among the most unpredictable of all time as all but one of the top-10 finishers started outside that mark. This was only the third time in 11 races with Hendrick Motorsports that Kahne has cracked the top 10 at Daytona, so fantasy owners can be forgiven if he was not on one’s roster.

Joey Logano was shuffled out of the draft late in the Daytona 500 and could manage to climb back to only sixth.

Logano was challenging Chase Elliott for the lead with 20 laps to go, but the inside line broke apart and the No. 22 dropped to the back. Logano fell to as low as 14th, but picked his way back toward the lead draft and had a shot at finishing in the top five at the end.

Paul Menard rounded out the top-five at Daytona with a fifth-place finish after starting 33rd.

There were a lot of place-differential points to accumulate in this race because of massive carnage. Menard has three previous Daytona International Speedway top-10s to his credit, however, so this was not just a function of luck.

Aric Almirola earned his second career top-five at Daytona International Speedway when he crossed under the checkers fourth in the 59th running of the 500.

Almirola used a little strategy to get to the front, but he managed to stay with the leaders through the closing laps. While this is only his second ever top-five on this track, it is the fifth time in the past six races that he scored a top-15.
Feb 26 - 6:49 PM

AJ Allmendinger finished third in the Daytona 500 after starting the afternoon 38th.

Allmendinger added a remarkable 35 place-differential points to his total. This matches his best Daytona finish. ‘Dinger also finished third in the 2009 Daytona 500. This is the second consecutive race that he scored a top-15 on this track.
Feb 26 - 6:42 PM

Ryan Blaney crossed under the checkers second in the 2017 Daytona 500.

Blaney started well back in the pack in 36th. He added 34 place-differential points to his total and that likely helped fantasy owners win their league. Previously, Blaney had finished worse than he started in every Daytona race. In the closing lap, Blaney was unable to mount a charge as the field broke apart after Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson stumbled on fuel in the final laps.
Feb 26 - 6:38 PM

Kurt Busch inherited the lead when first Chase Elliott and then Kyle Larson stumbled on fuel in the final laps to win the Daytona 500. He led only that one lap.

Busch has been one of the best plate racers for a long time, but he has never been able to capture this race. Both sides of his car were banged up with crash damage, but he managed to tuck into the draft until the lap. For the 11th time in history, a last-lap pass determined the 500.
Feb 26 - 6:32 PM

Kevin Harvick led the field to the green/white flag that marked the end of the second stage of the Daytona 500 to earn 10 championship points and one bonus point for the playoffs.

Joey Logano challenged him for the lead on the final lap, but came up just a little short. The stages are adding an extra dimension to the race and strategy and will impact fantasy owners greatly.
