Wonder bread will be the primary sponsor of Kurt Busch’s No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Chevrolet during the Oct. 18-20 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series weekend at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.

Inspired by the motion picture Talladega Nights, the colorful paint scheme on Busch’s Chevrolet will have a look similar to the No. 26 Wonder Bread race car in the 2006 movie. The motorsports sponsorship is part of the reintroduction of the Wonder brand, which had been off the market since the bankruptcy of its former owner late last year. Flowers Foods, a leading producer and marketer of packaged bakery foods in the U.S. acquired the Wonder brand in July 2013.-Furniture Row Racing

Cole Custer won the Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell Friday afternoon at Daytona Int’l Speedway in preparation for the 53rd running of the Lucas Oil 200 Driven By General Tire Saturday.

As a result, Custer, who turned 18 on January 23, becomes the youngest ARCA pole winner in history at Daytona. Custer, in the No. 54 Ken Schrader Racing-Haas Automation Chevrolet, was able to draft with the fastest cars during his four-minute run, and it paid off with a time of 47.769 seconds, an average speed of 188.407 mph. He came across the stripe fifth in a pack of five, but the fastest among the group.

Brian Vickers ran the second-most laps in the first practice session for the Sprint Unlimited. He logged 28 circuits around the track, which was two fewer than Joey Logano.

Vickers is returning to the seat of a NASCAR Cup car after a long medical hiatus and needs the seat time. He was also quick with the fifth-best 10-lap average of 196.33 mph and was one of only four drivers (along with Logano, Kyle Larson, and Kasey Kahne) to run at least 15 consecutive laps.
Feb 12 - 6:10 PM

Kasey Kahne logged the quickest 10-lap average speed of 196.74 mph and the fastest 15-lap average of 196.48 in the first practice session for the Sprint Unlimited at Daytona International Speedway.

Along with the second fastest top speed, he seems to have a well-balanced car. Now all he needs is to stay out of trouble in Saturday’s exhibition race.
Feb 12 - 6:06 PM

Denny Hamlin posted the fastest five-lap average speed in the first practice session for the Sprint Unlimited with a speed of 197.49 mph.

He narrowly edged Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s 197.44 and should be considered a strong contender for Saturday’s exhibition race.
Feb 12 - 6:01 PM

Kyle Larson (199.344 mph) and Kasey Kahne (199.159) topped the leaderboard in terms of fastest laps run in the first practice session for the Sprint Unlimited.

Both drivers ran more than 24 laps, which should give them a great feel for a fast draft.
Feb 12 - 5:58 PM

Jimmie Johnson and Brad Keselowski will lead the field to green for Saturday’s Sprint Unlimited. The starting lineup of 25 cars was determined by a random draw.

Fantasy players should note that starting position is not important on restrictor-plate, superspeedways unless—and this is occasionally a Big UNLESS—an accident happens in the opening laps. Johnson and Keselowski might have a slightly better chance of avoiding such an incident.
Feb 12 - 5:44 PM

NASCAR announced several changes at the beginning of the season, one of which was a new "overtime line" and unlimited attempts to end the race under green. The line will vary by track, according to NBC Sports and if the field has not passed the line, the field will have to attempt another start.

It was widely believed that Kevin Harvick intentionally spun Trevor Bayne at the end of last fall’s Talladega SuperSpeedway race to draw a race-ending caution that allowed him to advance to the Championship Round. This rule keeps that from happening again. The rule also increases the likelihood of a late-race shuffling of the deck on restrictor-plate, superspeedways, which makes them even more of a wild card for fantasy players.
