Busch is competing in both Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series again this weekend at Charlotte. The Chase is On: Busch currently sits fifth in the standings, 35 points behind Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Matt Kenseth heading to the fifth Chase for the Sprint Cup race at Charlotte.-True Speed Communication

With a result of 14th in his Can Am Duel at Daytona, DJ Kennington was the highest-finishing non-chartered driver in his heat and will start the Daytona 500 28th.

Kennington will be the open driver who starts closest to the front of the pack. Corey LaJoie starts 31st based on his Duel finish, while Brendan Gaughan and Elliott Sadler start on the final row based on their time trial speed. Kennington is not likely stay with the leaders, however, and there are better dark horses available.

Reed Sorenson and Timmy Hill were the two drivers who failed to qualify for the Daytona 500.

Sorenson was wrecked by Corey Lajoie in his Duel; Hill experienced some sort of mechanical difficulty. Make sure that neither of these drivers is on your roster as a long-shot dark horse.
Feb 24 - 11:37 AM

Kurt Busch finished third in his Can-Am Duel at Daytona and will line up eighth in the Daytona 500.

Busch is one of the unsung heroes of plate racing. If not for a last-corner tap from Joey Logano in the 2016 Coke Zero 400, he would have a nine-race, top-10 streak going. He was wrecked in The Clash by Jimmie Johnson, but should be a good value if he stays out of trouble.
Feb 24 - 11:33 AM

Kevin Harvick finished third in his Can-Am Duel for Daytona.

He will line up fifth for the Daytona 500 as a result behind Chase Elliott and Jamie McMurray. Both of those drivers are prone to over-exuberance in the opening laps, so look for Harvick to dive out of the draft and try to lead early.

Denny Hamlin’s victory in last year’s Daytona 500 was one of eight top-10s that he has scored in the last 12 plate races.

That streak dates back to his second-place finish in the 2014 Daytona 500 and it kicked off a string of five consecutive results of sixth or better at Daytona International Speedway. That streak was broken last July when he finished 17th after starting ninth.

Clint Bowyer has waited two years to take over the No. 14 Stewart-Haas Racing ride and it was worth it; he finished second in his Can-Am Duel in Daytona.

Bowyer has been solid in modest equipment on plate tracks. He has won in great equipment like he will wheel this weekend. Since he has struggled in recent seasons, he could provide a great differentiation for one’s roster.
Feb 24 - 12:22 AM

Jimmie Johnson was clipped by David Ragan while they were racing for a top-five position and his No. 48 got pinched into Ryan Blaney.

Johnson wrecked twice in the Advance Auto Parts Clash. The team tightened him up some, but Johnson complained of getting squirrely when drivers tried to side-draft him in his qualification race. Johnson has not had a lot of recent success on plate tracks and it does not appear this weekend will improve his record. Johnson ultimately finished 13th, but he was challenging for sixth on the final lap.

Jamie McMurray helped push Chase Elliott to his Can-Am Duel in Daytona victory and finished second in the process.

McMurray has had a lot of success on this track, but he has been crash prone in recent years. Since winning the 2010 Daytona 500 he has sustained damage in 11 of 13 races on this track. His aggression Thursday night suggests the same thing could happen again this year as 500 miles is a lot longer than the 150 he faced in the Duel

Denny Hamlin was penalized for a pit road infraction during the lap-25 competition caution and was forced to start at the tail-end of the longest line. He picked his way to the front in the final segment and won the second Can-Am Duel in Daytona.

Hamlin was last year’s winner of the 500 and he has quietly become one of the best drivers on this track type. He is moderately priced in most salary cap games and in the same group as Earnhardt in other contests. He makes a great differentiator.
Feb 23 - 9:55 PM

Chase Elliott led the field to green in the first Can-Am Duel at Daytona and led them to the checkers as well to win.

Elliott already had the pole for the Daytona 500 with his fastest lap in qualification last Sunday. He did not need to take any risks, but wanted the victory and the 10 championship points that went along with it. Elliott led much of the final segment of the race and applied a lesson learned from Brad Keselowski by leading first one line then the other in the draft.
Feb 23 - 8:22 PM

Ben Rhodes (No. 27 Safelite Auto Glass Toyota Tundra) had the best 10-lap consecutive average speed in the lone practice for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Next Era Energy Resources 250 at Florida's Daytona Int'l Speedway.

The average speed of 187.298 mph was best of the 16 trucks that ran at least 10 consecutive laps on the track for this session. No. 24 Scott Lagasse Jr., No. 29 Chase Briscoe, No. 21 Johnny Sauter and No. 17 Timothy Peters make up the rest of the top five on this list.
