Gaunt Brothers Racing and D.J. Kennington recovered from an early accident to finish 24th in Sunday's Daytona 500.

Just after the first quarter of the race, Kennington was involved in a three-car accident in which his Lordco/Castrol Toyota Camry sustained damage to its left front and left side. Fortunately, attrition was high during The Great American Race, as three more multi-car accidents throughout the day worked in the team's favor. Kennington completed 201 out of 207 laps -- the 500-mile event was extended due to a late-race accident -- to finish 24th among the 40-car field.-Rising Star Management

The 20-year-old Ladera Ranch, California, native is currently in his second full season in the XFINITY Series with Stewart-Haas Racing. Custer won his first NXS race at Homestead-Miami Speedway in his 38th-career NXS start behind the wheel of the No. 00 Ford.

AJ Allmendinger finished 10th in the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway as the last driver on the lead lap.

'Dinger has a solid record on plate tracks in large part because he manages to stay out of trouble. Make a note to watch him closely at Talladega SuperSpeedway in May and Daytona in July. The bigger story, however, is just how chaotic and unpredictable restrictor-plate racing can be.

Michael McDowell started 22nd and finished ninth in the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway.

All week, we have been saying that the move of Kasey Kahne into the No. 95 and McDowell to the No. 34 would be a good thing. It turned out better than expected for McDowell, who scored his third Daytona top-10 in the past three years. It pays to take dark horses in the Great American Race.
Feb 18 - 7:44 PM

Despite getting involved in a Big One crash in sight of the checkers, Ryan Newman finished eighth in the Daytona 500.

Newman is a bulldog and if he has a shot at getting into the top 10, he is going to do so. That never-quit attitude is what makes him such a strong fantasy value. Teammate Austin Dillon won, which will give Richard Childress Racing a lot of momentum in the coming weeks.
