Beginning on Sept. 7, 12 drivers will compete in the five-race (Desafío) battle to decide the 2014 NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series champion.

The top 10 drivers in the championship points standings plus two wild cards -- drivers outside the top 10 who earned a victory during the regular season -- had their points reset to 1000 after the Puebla 240. NASCAR Next alum and current Drive for Diversity pilot with Rev Racing in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Daniel Suárez (No. 3 Telcel Toyota) will be atop the standings when the Desafío kicks off in Chihuahua, Mexico. He opened the season with a victory in Phoenix International Raceway, picking up three additional victories in Súper Óvalo Chiapas, Autódromo Monterrey and Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City to earn 12 bonus points.-NASCAR Media

No matter how a player handicaps the Oral-B USA 500 at Atlanta, Jeff Gordon should be considered a top choice. He has a perfect record of top-10s on similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks this year and enters the weekend with three consecutive top-10s at Atlanta.

Atlanta is also the site of one of his most recent wins. He grabbed the checkered flag in the 2011 AdvoCare 500 and backed that up with a second the following year. After struggling last week in Bristol, he will be looking for redemption.

Justin Boston seized the day Sunday at Madison International Speedway, winning the Herr’s Live Life with Flavor 200 for his second ARCA Racing Series win of the season.

Boston ran in the top-five for most of the race, but grabbed the lead after previous leaders Grant Enfinger and Mason Mitchell both ran into troubles in the last quarter of the race. He came out of the pits following a late pit stop in first place then zoomed out to a big lead in the No. 25 ZLOOP Toyota. Defending race winner Kyle Benjamin finished second, Brandon Jones third and veteran Frank Kimmel fourth. Tom Hessert finished fifth, despite starting 25th.-ARCA Racing Series

Kyle Busch drew a pit road speeding penalty on lap 63, which put him in heavy traffic. He was unable to move forward, and was in the eye of the storm on lap 126 when he was swept into a Brian Vickers vs. Kyle Larson accident. His day never improved and he finished 36th.

The biggest drama of the race was when he pulled into his pits on lap 442 and abandoned his car for the crew to push to the hauler. This initiated an emotional verbal response from crew chief Dave Rogers and suggests there could be trouble in the team.

Fighting apparent handling issues, Jeff Gordon went from being a top-five contender in the early stages of the Irwin Tools Night Race to fighting simply to stay on the lead lap in the final minutes. He lost that battle and finished 16th Saturday night.

Gordon appeared to be unstoppable the previous week at Michigan and should have been a good bet to challenge for the victory again on this short track. His struggles underscore how difficult this recently reconfigured track has become to handicap in recent years.

Kyle Larson was the top finishing rookie in Saturday’s Irwin Tools Night Race, but his weekend was not without drama. He finished 12th after rolling off the grid 40th.

Larson had the fastest lap in Friday’s practice, but he spun on his qualification run and started deep in the pack. He was unable to secure a top-10 and sweep Bristol in his rookie season, but his 12th showed the greatest improvement in the field from starting position to finish.

Brad Keselowski finished 0.391 seconds behind teammate Joey Logano to complete a sweep of the top two positions for Penske Racing.

Many experts are predicting the championship will be a Penske vs. Hendrick Motorsports battle this year and these two organizations have combined for 15 of 24 races. Notably, Logano, Brad Keselowski, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, and Jimmie Johnson are tied at the top of the 2014 winner’s list with three apiece.
Aug 23 - 10:53 PM

Joey Logano took the lead from Matt Kenseth with 50 laps remaining and held off a charge by his teammate Brad Keselowski to win the Irwin Tools Night Race. It was his sixth career win and first at Bristol.

Logano has not been uniformly strong at Bristol, but he has been much stronger in the fall night race than the spring. This was his third consecutive top-10 in this event, but his best Food City 500 is only 16th.
