Matt Tifft finishes 6th in Saturday's ARCA Racing Series race at Mobile International Speedway.

He started the No. 52 Chevrolet 15th in the lineup for the Mobile ARCA 200. He is currently 15th in the 2014 ARS point standings.

Denny Hamlin suffered migraine-like symptoms late in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte and held on to finish eighth in NASCAR’s longest race of the year.

Hamlin was complaining about a headache even while he was leading in the closing laps. He was one of the drivers who chose to not gamble on fuel and had a top-five capable car.

Brad Keselowski finished seventh in each of the past two races, both of which were run on similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks. His Coca-Cola 600 top-10 at Charlotte Motor Speedway came after starting sixth.

Keselowski was never out of contention for his top-10 at Charlotte. He spent 80 percent of the race with the leaders and led on two separate occasions for three laps.

Ryan Newman scored his third straight top-10 with a sixth at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the Coca-Cola 600. It was also his 10th top-12 finish in the last 11 races.

Newman does not seem to be suffering any ill effects from losing crew chief Luke Lambert. So long as he is knocking down top-10s, he remains a place-and-hold driver.
May 25 - 8:53 AM

For the second week, Martin Truex Jr. had the strongest car on a similarly-configured, 1.5-mile track but he lost the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway due to a strategy call. He was the highest-finishing driver who did not stretch his fuel mileage.

Truex keeps his incredible streak of top-10s alive with 11 such results in 12 races. This was his second top-five on a similarly-configured, 1.5-mile track after finishing second at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and he continues to be a place-and-hold driver in nearly every game.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. was one of four drivers who finished in the top five in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway after gambling on fuel mileage. He finished third after passing Matt Kenseth in the closing laps.

With his Talladega SuperSpeedway victory, he decided to roll the dice and it paid off with a better finish than he would have experienced otherwise. Occasionally gambles pay dividends for fantasy players and this keeps a top-five streak on similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks alive for the No. 88

Greg Biffle scored his best result of the season when he crossed under the checkers second in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. In pre-race coverage, we predicted this would be his first top-10 on an unrestricted, intermediate speedway and he beat that projection by a significant margin. Several spots were earned because of his fuel mileage gamble, however.

This is Biffle’s first top-five since last August at Pocono Raceway and it signals a general improvement at Roush-Fenway Racing. He still needs to be evaluated on a weekly basis until he strings several top-15s together.

Kyle Weatherman won the ARCA 150 presented by Unique Pretzels at New Jersey Motorsports Park Sunday, leading the final five laps for his career-first ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards win.

He gained the lead from Menards Pole winner Cole Custer on lap 62, then survived a late race re-start in which he put his No. 22 Cunningham Motorsports Dodge into the grass between turns two and three on the 12-turn, 2.25-mile Thunderbolt Raceway course. He somehow managed to keep the lead, however, staying in front of Cunningham Motorsports teammate Tom Hessert and Josh Williams.

Carl Edwards gambled on fuel in NASCAR’s longest race of the season and won the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He beat Greg Biffle by nearly five seconds. Edwards led the first lap and the last one, but only 23 circuits in between.

Edwards has had some strong runs this year, but he has regularly pushed too hard. Now that he has broken into Victory Lane, the floodgates are liable to open wide and he will be a good value in the coming weeks.

Cole Custer won the Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell Saturday afternoon at New Jersey Motorsports Park and will start on the pole for Sunday’s ARCA 150 presented by Unique Pretzels.

Custer is making his ARCA Racing Series debut this weekend in the No. 00 Haas Automation Chevrolet. His qualifying speed was 100.504 mph. Custer, who is both the youngest pole sitter and youngest winner in NASCAR Touring Series history, is driving the same car that Chase Elliott scored two top-five’s with at New Jersey Motorsports Park. He is a JR Motorsports development driver splitting his season among NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, ARCA and the NASCAR K&N Series. The listed team owner on the No. 00 is Wayne Peterson, longtime ARCA car owner.-ARCA Racing

Kyle Larson rounds out the top three in final practice for the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in regard to 10-lap average speeds. His time was 184.085 mph, which was set during his first 10 laps on the track just like Kasey Kahne and Denny Hamlin.

Like Hamlin, Larson’s single fastest lap was well down the grid with a speed of 184.491 mph that was only 16th-best. Larson needs a good run this week and will probably get it, but there are safer fantasy options.
May 23 - 8:10 PM

Jimmie Johnson posted the second-quickest time in the morning session (of 17 drivers who went that distance) for the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway with a speed of 187.437 mph during his first 10 laps on track. He was fifth quickest of 27 drivers in final practice.

Johnson should be able to record a top-10 finish, but a little more is expected of him at Charlotte. If he fits a niche he should be used, but there is no reason to rearrange a roster just to accommodate the No. 48.
