Gray Gaulding has made 44 previous starts in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, but none of them have come on a road course.

The closest Gaulding has come to a road course might be the flat bullring of Martinsville Speedway. In four starts there, he has a best of 29th in the 2017 STP 500, but he was five laps off the pace. Gaulding has completed the full distance of a Cup race only twice previously in his career, but with Free Passes and Wave Arounds, he might be able to add another this week.

Clint Bowyer was a surprise winner on the 2012 Sonoma race, but in the events that followed he showed that was no fluke.

Bowyer followed his 2012 Sonoma win with two more top-fives and another pair of top-10s. He has stumbled a few times since, but still has four results of sixth or better in the last six road course races – including a second-place finish at Sonoma last year. He deserves a spot on most – if not all – rosters this week.

Daniel Suarez is one of five Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series drivers who will do double duty this week in the K&N West series.

Suarez has only two previous stars on road courses in the Cup series and the results were mixed. He finished 16th in last year’s edition of this race, but had an amazing third at the Watkins Glen International. Keep a close eye on him in the support race and he may be one of the top differentiators this week.
